Pick-6 Preview: Gulfstream Park $828,273 Carryover - January 30, 2013

No one has still hit the Rainbow Pick-6 at Gulfstream Park and on Wednesday the carryover pool will start at $828,273.  Let’s take a look at some of the horses with long shot chances during the sequence.

Race five is a maiden special weight at five furlongs on the turf with Off the Page the lukewarm 7-2 morning line favorite.  Off the Page is a full two a couple of winners, but drew post 10, which is winless over the last two years.  Others to consider are Surfspun, 4-1, Heart and Pride, 8-1, and the two first-time-starters Silver Value and Money Clip.  Both Silver Value and Money Clip will improve with distance, but could upset at a price.

The sixth race is a low level maiden claimer at eight and one-half furlongs on the main track.  With the short run to the turn and short stretch run, horses in posts one through five have the advantage.  Those posts include Daddy’s Trooper, 12-1, D’Time, 12-1, Five Filly, 12-1, and Madam Grace, 3-1.  Foxie Afleet is a vulnerable favorite, breaking from post eight.

On the turf for race seven with Brandys Secret the 9-5 morning line favorite.  The six-year-old mare has won four of five races, but may not get an easy lead this time with other speed in the race.  Ainsley can rebound off her poor effort and Bobs Pinup Girl will be running late.  Stage Trip should be just behind the pace and will get a solid trip.

Back on the main track for race eight, a $6,250 claiming race going seven furlongs.  Temple Lion will be tough if she runs to her last race, but Political Miss and Storm Da Chaser will be breathing down the favorite’s neck.  Bon Bon deserves a look, second off the claim for trainer Giuseppe Iadisernia.

Skylander is 4-1 on the morning line, but is likely to go favored in race nine.  The Bring the Heat-gelding had a bit of trouble early in his last race, which was his first off an eight month layoff.  He will be better fit for the start on Wednesday and retains jockey Joel Rosario.  Bernie the Jet and Holy Command finished in front of the favorite last out and have each way claims.  Happy Fella absolutely freaked in his maiden breaker over the course and distance, but it was a weak field and he is a possible bounce candidate.  Again, post 10 does him no favors.

The finale is another turf race, a maiden claimer for four-year-olds and upward going a flat mile.  Dr. Goldfarb, Fort Morgan and Here Comes Drz will most likely be on every ticket.  Long shot plays are Son of a Tramp and Barbada, but make the ticket your own as only one winning ticket takes down the entire pool.
