Pick-6 Preview: Gulfstream Park Rainbow Pick-6 Carryover – February 13, 2013

February 13th, 2013

The pool size of the Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park is at a point where it makes sense to play, even if you are not the only ticket.  Last week the payouts for the 10-cent wager were $111,535, $4,429, $3,521, $1,590 and $18,246.  The pool on Wednesday is over $2.2-million.

Race five, a maiden claimer, kicks off the wager with Colorme Kitten the 5-2 morning line favorite.  The three-year-old filly finished second in her last race, five and one-quarter lengths clear of the third place finisher.  Backstairs Gossip also ran a winning race in her last and gets the blinkers on for her third career start.  Regal Melody drops in class for her first start since mid-October and is first-time-lasix while Elusive Wondergirl and first-time-starter Forest Pegasus also fit.  Pearl de Vere is another “use” if she drawns in off the AE list.

Core Inflation is the favorite for race six and the four-year-old has yet to cross the wire first.  He was awarded first-place money after a horse was disqualified out of a maiden race in October.  He has an even running style, drew an outside post and may catch a field he can beat, but is not a single.  Swidgen, Taylors Tough and Visionandprayer are the main contenders.

Low level claimers line up in race seven with Cat Can Do, Daddys Jewel, Samantha G, Desert Witch, Saratoga Blitz and Starship Cutie all single digits odds.

Full field of maiden special weight runners go five furlongs on the grass in race eight with eight of the 12 making their debut.  Ten Items Or Less runs out of the Pletcher barn and is a must use.  Royal Argument runs for a trainer who hits at 27% with his debut runners while Doubledown Again’s trainer James DiVito can hit first out as well.  Tough race in the sequence.

More turf racing in the ninth, this time $25,000 claimers.  Only nine betting interests in the field with seven of them having a shot to win.  Perhaps it’s all burger time.

The finale is another maiden claiming race and if it’s not Diamondesque then it’s anybody’s guess.  The favorite drops to her lowest level, but is making her first start on dirt after four runs on synthetic and turf.  Bird in the Bush, Chapel’s Beauty, Blondie Jo, Libra Four, Miss Guchi and Classy and Serene are all closely rated in the second tier of contenders.  Based on budget, either single the favorite or use all of the above.

First post at Gulfstream on Wednesday is 12:45 ET with race five scheduled to break from the gate at 2:37.
