Pick 6 Preview: Hollywood Park - $94,863 Carryover – June 27, 2013
When racing resumes at Hollywood Park on Thursday there is a carryover of just under $95,000 awaiting bettors. The sequence starts with race three, a claiming race for fillies and mares at seven furlongs on the main cushion track.
Full’s Figurehead is the 7-5 morning line favorite for the seven furlong sprint and will take some beating if she runs back to either of her last two. If she gets pressure on the front end; however, the race could set up well for Light of Life, who is running first-off-the claim for trainer Dean Pederson.
Race four is a maiden special weight race on the turf and Major Affair, Power Ped and Cacau are the principles. Money Machine and Di Conti are a pair of second-time-starters that could upset the apple cart.
Claimers go eight and one-half furlongs in race five with seven horses between 3-1 and 8-1 on the morning line. Big Wags was pegged as the morning line favorite and will try to duplicate his win over Rock This Way in late May. A six-year-old gelding, Big Wags has won four of his last five races while in the barn of Bill Spawr and is now trained by Peter Eurton. Trucial State ran at this level two back and won by a head at Santa Anita, but is winless in five starts over a synthetic surface.
Distant Image may be a long shot on the morning line, but is a must use in the pick-6 and pick-4 for race six. Distant Image is a stretch runner that should get plenty of pace to run into with speed horses Victoriously Jewel, Nihilist and Woebegon all looking to make the lead. Appealing Resume may sit the trip just off the speed and has nine wins, two seconds and one third in 19 career starts on synthetic surfaces in both Northern and Southern California.
Unbridled Giant and Horizon Sky just finished one-two in an allowance race won by stakes-type Joelito and are the top two betting choices in race seven. Little Jerry and Uno Dos Adios represent the dangers to the favorites; Little Jerry has one win in five starts while Uno Dos Adios finished a length and one-half behind Horizon Sky in that allowance race. Unless Mike Smith pushes Uno Dos Adios early, Unbridled Giant could have an easy walk in the part on the front end.
The finale is a maiden claimer going six furlongs for three-year-olds and upward and drew a field of nine. J Man just finished third at this level in his last start and it’s now or never for the 10-start maiden. The connections picked an easy field and goes to a hot riding bug boy for the mount. Mr. Fitzramathorn dives out of a maiden special weight race while Wise Boss also drops in class, coming out of higher maiden claiming races. This is not the strongest race in the sequence, but could be the most lucrative for those who hit the pick-6.
First post on Thursday at Hollywood Park is 4:00 pm ET with race three scheduled to break from the gate at 5:01.
