Pick 6 Preview: Santa Anita $42,339 Carryover - April 6, 2013
Not only is there a great card on Saturday at Santa Anita, but there is also a pick-6 carryover and a guaranteed $750,000 pool in the late pick-4. We touched on the Providencia and Santa Anita Derby in this week's Player's Edge so lets take a look at the other four races.
The pick-6 starts with the Thunder Road, a one-mile turf stakes, and contention runs deep. Battle Force, Wilkinson, Chiloquin, Tigah, Willyconker, Causeithertz and Fed Biz are all single digits on the morning line and all have a shot of kicking off the pick-6 with an upset win. Fed Biz drops from the best race, the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile and could start as the slight favorite.
Race seven is the Grade 2 Potrero Grande, a seven furlong sprint for four-year-olds and upward. Jimmy Creed is a personal favorite and is looking to keep win back-to-back races after scoring in the Grade 1 Malibu in December. He must; however, out run Comma to the Top, who is pure speed. Italian Rules loves Santa Anita and Haverhill just freaked at Gulfstream; those are the upsetters.
Next is the Providencia with the Santa Anita Derby to follow.
The final two races are a sprint on the main track for allowance runners and a starter allowance on the turf.
In race 10, Points Offthebench and Oliver's Tale look like the two to back especially with the scratching of Frenemy and One World. If ready to roll off the long layoff, Gonna Fly Now has a big shot.
Square Dancer is 5-1 on the morning line and could be an aggressive single. He ran a winning race in his California debut then couldn't get to the winner in an off-the-turf race last month. He gets back on the turf and Garrett Gomez back in the irons, all systems go. Bio Pro, East Sky and Russel's Run are the dangers.
First post is less than an hour away at 3:00 ET with the Thunder Road scheduled to break from the gate at 5:30.
