Pick 6 Preview: Santa Anita $47,834 Carryover – February 8, 2013
Funny Belle is the 5-2 morning line favorite dropping in class on the stretch out after a run down the hill. She looks like a solid filly and was running well in allowance races all of 2012. English Puddin has won back-to-back races while Blush Martha comes out of the same race as the favorite.
Streets of Heaven is the class of race four, but his better days may be behind him. He was dull in a seventh place finish as the favorite at Golden Gate last month and now plummets in class on the return to So Cal. Idontrollonshabbos has not won since leaving the Peter Miller barn, but should improve second off the layoff. Bet On Victor has run races in the past that would put him in the winner’s circle.
Senor Rain just missed at the allowance/optional claiming level and now drops into a straight claiming race at the same price. If he wins and gets claimed it will be a nice $21,000 return on investment for the new connections. Love That Action is the sneaky play dropping in class with the blinkers on. He broke his maiden over the track in March 2012. Sir Allison and Fast N Furius Cat add pace.
More claimers go to post in race six with Catienus Gold the heavy 6-5 morning line favorite. The filly drops about half in claiming price and can wire the field for trainer Jeff Bonde, who is hitting at 29% this meet.
The day’s feature is a state-bred allowance race for three-year-old fillies going six furlongs on the main track. Hail Mary will try to keep it going for favorite backers off her smashing maiden victory last month. Majestic Jewel just broke her maiden over the turf and makes her first start on dirt. To show how weak this race is, Funny Gal is 5-1 on the morning line and, on speed figures, is 30 points slower than the favorite.
Maiden claimers, four-years-old and upward, end the card and perhaps we can get a price here. Catquest, Warren’s Parolee, Arch Your Back, Ruled by Kisses, Run Charlie Run, Goodbye Charile and Solid South are all between 5-2 and 8-1 on the morning line. Solid South drops from a straight maiden off an 11-month layoff and may be in for the money run.
First post at Santa Anita on Friday is 4:00 with the Pick-6 scheduled to break from the gate at 5:02 ET.
