Pick 6 Preview: Santa Anita $86,542 Carryover - April 4, 2013
Race three, a downhill turf sprint for Cal-bred fillies and mares, kicks off the sequence with My Cinsation and Hidethegoodstuff the two to key on. My Cinsation holds the edge as the daughter of Cindago has already won over the course.
A good field of older claimers go two turns in race six and most pick-6 players will use three of the six. Both Spit Ball and Bluegrass Reward have won three straight, but the expected fast pace favors the late running Joe Carl, who is a length away from winning his last four starts.
The fifth race is bit of a query as the morning line favorite Midnight Crooner shows up eligible to be claimed for $25,000 after running in two straight graded stake races. The son of War Chant, if ready to roll, should handle the field. Golden Mexico ran a good race in his first off the long layoff and could upset the favorite. Porfido returns to the level of his last win while Mr. Make Believe just won at this class level in an off-the-turf race last month.
Warren's Parolee and Unmarked Bills look to be the two to back in race six, but neither can be trusted. Warren's Parolee was the favorite last out when he stumbled at the start and weakened in the lane. Unmarked Bills looks to be a career maiden with three seconds and one third in nine starts. Of course there is not much else in the race so these two may have found a field to their liking.
Disarm and Horizon Sky did not draw well going down the hill in race eight, but they are the top two in the field of eight. Meringue Pie and The Whole Deal rate a long shot look.
One of the few five furlong sprints at Santa Anita round out the Thursday card and contention runs deep. Dockweiler drops from a state-bred maiden special weight to this open maiden claimer and has run bullets in the morning for his second career start. Shadow Hall, Great Friends Rule, Full Fare, Marini Martini and Fighting On also cannot be counted out.
No stand out singles on the day, but it looks like an excellent opportunity to pad the bankroll for this weekend.
