No one hit the pick-6 on Thursday at Del Mar thus creating a carryover pool of just over $80,000 into the Friday evening card. The sequence starts with race two, a maiden claiming race for two-year-old state-bred or sired fillies.

My Lucky Rose from the Bob Baffert stable is the filly to beat as she is dropping out of a pair of straight maiden races. She needs to improve, but may just do that at this level. Grazenette, Another Victoria and Glorious Rebecca are three debutantes that could win the race while Cabbage makes her third career start.

Blues and Silvers was a dominant winner in her Southern California debut and has been first or second in 11 of her 13 career races including nine wins. Last time she was ridden by Gary Stevens, who finds himself on the Irish-bred Gulsary for trainer Tom Proctor. Gulsary has not run since November 2012 and may need longer to show her best. English Crossing and Fantastic Mizz will be positioned just behind the favorite and will get first run.

Open two-year-old maiden claiming fillies run five and one-half in race four and contention runs deep. Quick Approval, Peggy Lynn, Shopping Savannah, Take One and Goodhumorgirl are all good working runners making their first career start and would win, but they must all defeat second-time-starter Mia’s Storm. Gracie Ragazza drops from a maiden special weight race and puts the blinkers on.

Siding with Frenemy, Hurry Home Clover and Tuckers Point in the fifth race; a $16,000 claimer for horses that have never won two races. Hurry Home Clover will be pushing the splits along with Affliction and Salah Champ. Salah Champ may be the speed of the speed running in a route race for the first time in his career.

The feature sixth race is the 40th running of the $100,000 El Cajon Stakes for three-year-olds at one mile on the main Polytrack. This is a tough race that drew a good field of eight. Fury Kapcori will be the pick for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer stretching out from six furlongs after a good fourth place finish with trouble in an allowance race on August 1. The Tiznow colt must run down Manado, Holy Lute and U’narack then hold off the late charges of Tiz a Minister, Tree of Life and Pataky Kid. Seems pretty simple right?

The finale isn’t any easier and on a day without a slam dunk single it may be worth it to start handicapping the Saturday card. In the last Warren’s Dixi Bell and Van Dien Avenue are the principles, but don’t count out long shots Sri’s Red and Tribal Valentine. Cee’s Tizzy Belle is an interesting debut runner for trainer Marty Jones and with Julien Leparoux up, she may be ready to fire first out.

First post on Friday at Del Mar is 7:00 pm ET with race two off at 7:30.
