Race Preview: Cinderella & Willard Proctor Stakes - Hollywood Park, June 25, 2013
The supporting features on Saturday at Hollywood Park are a paid of two-year-old stakes and both are solid wagering events. First up is the Cinderella for the fillies.
The two to back in the Cinderella are Pleasant Miss and On the Backstreets, who drew next to each other in posts one and two. Pleasant Miss began her career in the Adam Kitchingman barn and now is under the care of Jerry Hollendorfer after blitzing maiden claimers in her debut. Pleasant Miss made the lead in that race and never looked back, drawing off to win by an easy six and one-quarter lengths. On raw times she is the fastest filly early, but will need to hold off On the Backstreets late.
On the Backstreets was out-broke in her debut, but sat chilly then made a run to the lead and drew off to win by over two lengths going away. The Pennsylvania-bred daughter of Street Boss will need to improve second out, but that is just what she is expected to do.
As race 4, the Cinderella is part of the pick-5 and early pick-4 and later on the card the Willard Proctor is part of the pick-6 and late pick-4.
The Willard Proctor this year is tough; the nine colts and geldings are between 7-2 and 10-1 on the morning line with a first-time-starter the 7-2 top choice.
Kobe's Back is a Flatter horse that cost $480,000 in March at Ocala and has been working steadily in California since mid-April. His trainer John Sadler has been going gang busters lately and Kobe's Back can add to his win total, but it's not going to be easy.
Time for a Hug, Solid Wager and Street Icon were all debut winners while Willie B Awesome and California Chrome won in their second start. Go First was only a half length behind Willie B Awesome while Geldautomat was beat by Street Icon three quarters of a length after steadying late. Of those, the maiden Go First may have the most ability. He was not bet in his debut and had no early speed, but made a great run late and galloped out well. His speed figure is second in the field only behind Willie B Awesome.
One More is the other debut runner in the field and his connections now how to win. The Paul Reddam owned, Doug O'Neill trained and Mario Gutierrez ridden colt hopes that the team has another big victory in them.
All may be the best way to go in the multi-race exotics.
First post on Saturday at Hollywood Park is 4:00 pm ET with the Cinderella off at 5:35 and the Willard Proctor at 7:35.
