Race Preview: Dowager Stakes - Keeneland, October 20, 2013
Sunday's feature race at Keeneland is the 22nd running of the $125,000 Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes. The 12-furlong turf race for fillies and mares drew a field of 10; let's take a look.
The morning line favorite for the race at 7-2 is the Irish-bred Kissable for trainer Roger Attfield. The five-year-old mare is coming out of a fifth place finish in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl at Belmont Park and has not won in her last six starts dating back to August 2012.
Preferential and Angel Terrace are next up on the line and both can upset. Preferential is likely to be on or near the pace on Sunday off of her neck defeat in a similar race at Kentucky Downs. In France, Preferential won a race at 12 furlongs.
Angel Terrace is on a five race losing streak with her last win coming in the Valley View over the track in October 2012. Trainer Jonathan Sheppard has had an uncharacteristically bad meet going winless in his first 10 starts. Angel Terrace was third in the Kentucky Downs race behind Preferential and the fourth place finisher, Left a Message, is also in the Dowager.
The long shot play in the group is going to be I'm Your Luv, a four-year-old Scat Daddy filly making her stakes debut. I'm Your Luv just won a race at Kentucky Downs at the same distance that Preferential, Angel Terrace and Left a Message just ran at. On class, I'm Your Luv does not fit, but this race is wide open and anything can happen.
Post time for the Dowager on Sunday is 4:49 pm ET.
