Race Preview: Florida Stallion Series – Calder, October 12, 2013
The co-features on the Saturday card at Calder Race Course are two races in the Florida Stallion series, the My Dear Girl for two-year-old fillies and the In Reality for two-year-olds.
First up is the My Dear Girl where Scandalous Act is the 4-5 morning line favorite off of her daylight victory in the second leg of the Florida Stallion Series, the Susan’s Girl. Scandalous Act has won three of her first four races and her other race was so bad that it has to be thrown out. The daughter of Act of Duty will be making her first start around two turns on Saturday, but off her last two, she will be tough to beat. Quinnkat, Holiday Magic, Golden Friendships and Starship Sassy all have races around two turns with Holiday Magic the biggest danger to the favorite. The Congrats filly won the Brave Raj against open company by four and one quarter lengths and will love the two turns. In the Susan’s Girl, Holiday Magic finished nine lengths behind Scandalous Act.
The next race is the In Reality and there is a bit more competition here with 8-5 My Brown Eyed Guy and 5-2 Best Plan Yet. The two were one-two in the Florida Stallion Affirmed stakes in August with Best Plan Yet coming back to win the Foolish Pleasure last month. The upsetter may be Worldly Vision, the Louisiana-bred by Graeme Hall. Worldly Vision finished seventh in his debut in June then took some time off before coming back to win a maiden special weight by four and one-half lengths at Louisiana Downs. Trainer Eric Heitzmann has called on a 22% jockey who knows his way around the Calder strip.
The My Deal Girl goes to post at 3:30 pm ET with the In Reality off at 4:00. The My Dear Girl is the third leg of the pick-5, which starts with race five and includes the Tropical Park Derby, My Dear Girl, In Reality and Frances A. Genter stakes.
