Race Preview: Hollywood Park Saturday Stakes - July 6, 2013

July 6th, 2013

Two stake races on the Saturday card at Hollywood Park, one a good betting race and the other, not so much, but at least it's part of the pick 6 and late pick 4.

First up is the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Mile for fillies and mares. The race ends the pick-5, early pick-4 and is the start of the pick-6. This is one race that needs to be handicapped correctly.

The morning line favorite for the Heroine is Schiaparelli, who is making her two-turn debut. In her eight previous starts, all turf sprints, the daughter of Ghostzapper has four wins, one second and two thirds. She is the pace of the race, but may find it crowded on the front end with Appealing and Egg Drop also expected to show speed.

I Dazzle looks like the first beneficiary of a speed duel and can get first run on the leaders. She was third in a grade 3 on the Hollywood main track last out and is a three-time winner on turf. Stormy Lucy and My Gi Gi will be the two trailers and would need something crazy up front to get the job done as the mile distance looks to be too short for their best.

Four races later is the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup featuring multiple Grade 1 winner Game On Dude. The six-year-old gelding has win four straight and seven of his last ten. Trainer Bob Baffert has the horse at its best right now and is looking for back-to-back wins in the Gold Cup. Look for Game On Dude early and know Clubhouse Ride late. A five-year-old, Clubhouse Ride was second to the favorite two back in the Charles Town Classic and in his last start, the Grade 2 Californian, he won by an easy two and one-quarter lengths.

Game On Dude is the class of the field and many people's single in the pick-6 and late pick-4, but could it be time for Clubhouse Ride? Stay tuned.

First post on Saturday at Hollywood Park is 4:00 pm ET with the Royal Heroine scheduled for 6:04 and the Gold Cup at 8:00.
