Race Preview: Moccasin Stakes - Hollywood Park, November 9, 2013
The feature race on Saturday at Hollywood Park is the 25th running of the $100,000 Moccasin Stakes for two-year-old fillies. The seven furlong race drew just a field of six, but contention runs deep.
The morning line favorite is Bajan, winner of the Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita in her last start. The daughter of Speightstown has won two of four including a second place finish at Hollywood Park in July. She is one of only three with a race over the track.
Perched and E Equalsmcsquared also have a run at Hollywood with Perched finishing fourth in the Landaluce Stakes in her second career start and E Equalsmcsquared running second in that same race. E E Equalsmcsquared, by Einstein, also ran fourth in her debut over the track, but her only win came at Lone Star Park. Perched has yet to win a race, but picks up Rafael Bejarano in the irons.
The new face to Southern California may be the one to wager on if her odds dictate. Lemon de Oro started her career on the grass in New York before breaking her maiden at Keeneland at this seven furlong distance. She did break from post 11 in that start and now must navigate a trip from the rail. Joe Talamo has the call for trainer Graham Motion.
The interesting filly in the race is For Emma, who is making her first start for trainer Doug O'Neill after being claimed from Peter Miller in mid-October. For Emma was sent off at 4-1 in her debut, but ran more like 1-4, drawing off to win by over 10 lengths. Not sure how good she is or what kind of field she beat, but she may just be up to the task.
First post on Saturday at Hollywood Park is 3:30 pm ET with the Moccasin, which starts the early pick-4, off at 4:00.
