Race Preview: Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs James M. Lynch Memorial Pace for 3YO Fillies Saturday June 29th
Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs will feature four stakes finals on Saturday night, June 29th.
The James M. Lynch Memorial Pace for 3YO fillies, $500,000
The Ben Franklin for older pacers, $500,000
The Max C Hempt Memorial Pace for 3YO's, $500,000
The Earl Beal Jr. Memorial Trot for 3YO's, $500,000
Jerseylicious also has early speed and, although she seems to be in a slump, has shown that she can win from the outside, as has Corey Callahan, who has the best win record out of all these drivers for outside post positions. If Jerseylicious returns to her winning ways, she may just gun to the lead and stay there. It's how she's won 4 out of 5 of the races she's run at Pocono.
Shebestingin has the best post position at Pocono, and also shares a 1.49.3 finish time, last time out, when she was a head behind Ms. Caila Fra. She's a very adaptable filly, and has won from just about every position, posting recent wins from the far outside posts. Several public handicappers have posted her in their win or exotic picks.
Ms. Caila Fra, two posts over to Shebestingin's inside in the 3 post, looks to be more than capable of repeating their last order of finish. With two sub-1.50 finishes and Simon Allard's ability to rate her with pinpoint accuracy throughout the race, I think she might just take this race. If so, it probably won't be by a large margin, but she could hang on for a win.
Trainer Tony Alagna has three entries in this race. Two of them, Nikki Beach and Mattie Terror Girl, are moving up and don't look like they have the class to compete at this level. Neither does his third entry, Authorize, although she does have Yannick Gingras handling the reins. With 22% for wins in the last month, Gingras has surprised in stakes races before. This time though, I don't think he has the horse for it - not at this level.
Charisma Hanover is also moving up in class in this stakes race. This filly has overcome three poor post positions in her last three races and has shown strong determination under adverse circumstances. She's won 1 out of 2 of her races at Pocono and has an impressive record of wins and lengths that she's won by. Horses that are still gaining right before the finish line like she does are always a threat. This time, from an inside post, she may exceed her highest speed rating and that would put her into contention with the horses who have speed ratings that are just a little higher than her best, so far.
Somwherovrarainbow is not only moving up in class, but has a poor position. That said, she IS a daughter of Somebeachsomewhere and I've learned to my dismay not to count out any of his progeny in stakes races. Montrell Teague has her in the money 90% of the time and she's won 2 out of 4 races this year. She has one second at Pocono out of 2 races here.
Watch and wager on this race and the other stakes races and consolations on the Pocono card at Bet America. And remember that Pocono is a bonus track at Bet America, so you get 3% cash back on your wagers there.
Here's wishing safe trips and good racing luck to all the horses and drivers on tonight's card.

The biggest issue here is whether the probable favorite, I Luv The Nitelife, can handle the outside post position. Drawing the 8 box in a stakes race is always problematic, although the filly's early speed and very competent driver certainly improves her chances of securing good position right after the gate.Jerseylicious also has early speed and, although she seems to be in a slump, has shown that she can win from the outside, as has Corey Callahan, who has the best win record out of all these drivers for outside post positions.
