Race Preview: Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs - PASS 2 YO Fillies Pace - Friday Sept 6th
The Stallion Series Final for 2YO Filly Pacers takes place in Race 16 at Pocono on Friday night, September 6th. Five PA sires are represented and four PA damsires.
1-Mayabelle (McArdle-The Panderosa) definitely likes the track where she's won two out of three and placed in her other Pocono outing. Her speed figures are better than needed for the expected pace here if she can leave fast enough to get the position she wants. Mike Simons, who has 3 starts in the money with this filly, drives for John Butenschoen.
1a-McVita Bella (Somebeachsomewhere-Western Hanover) will start from the 8 post with Marcus Miller, who drives the filly for the first time for John Butenschoen. She has one win at Pocono and a third, but has five wins on the board out of seven races for the year. The post isn't the best one for a pace, but she has won from the 7 post and looks to have enough early speed to overcome that with a little racing luck.
2-South Beach Babe (Somebeachsomewhere-Jate Lobell) driven for the first time by George Napolitano for Randy Bends might be one to consider on an off track. Speed figures aren't quite up to par for this race and no wins at Pocono out of 2 races.
3-Lucy's Pearl (Well Said-Camluck) first drive with this filly for Matt Kakaley for trainer Ron Gurfein, who fires at 21% for wins with 2 year olds. Good record for dam, Remember When, whose 2 year olds hit the board at a good clip. Sire and damsire are both good on an off track, so take note if it rains.
4-Dragon Town (Dragon Again-Town Pro Miss) Ron Pierce drives for Sam De Pinto and has driven Dragon Town to a win at Pocono and a show at Harrah's in the sire stakes series. Has the speed and can get to the lead early and still have plenty left in the tank to finish.
5-Shutthefrontdoor (Well Said-Run The Table) Fourth drive for Fern Paquet Jr for Michael Sinclair. Three races at Pocono with two shows. Speed isn't up to projected par for this one but post position might help. Hit the board in 5 out of last 6 races. Damsire might indicate better performances at 3.
6-Weeper (All American Native-Badlands Hanover) Dave Palone jumps on this one for Kelly O'Donnell, who has hit the board with this filly 80% of the time in 5 races. Meadows top driver has won a third of his Pocono races so has to be respected here.
7-Southwind Jumanji (Well Said-Jate Lobell) First time for Tyler Buter with this filly and a recent trainer change back to James Rothfuss. Good off track sire and damsire. Speed could be better and post position is not advantageous unless she gets out a lot faster in this one than she has in the past.
Good racing luck and safe trips to all the horses and drivers on the program tonight. Watch and wager on Bet America where bonus tracks pay rewards.
