Race Preview: Silverbulletday Stakes - Fair Grounds, January 19, 2013
In between the Louisiana Handicap and LeComte Stakes on Saturday at Fair Grounds is the $125,000 Silverbulletday Stakes for three-year-old fillies. The race has a great tradition of top fillies on the trail to the Kentucky Oaks.
This year's race drew a field of 11 led by morning line favorite Gal About Town. Gal About Town comes out of a second place finish in the Grade 2 Golden Rod at Churchill Downs, a race won by Seaneen Girl, who is also in the Silverbulletday. Seaneen Girl was 31-1 that day with Gal About Town the 2-1 post time favorite. If playing the multi-race exotics both must be used, but contention runs deep.
After the top two there are five entrants between 6-1 and 8-1 on the morning line. Touch Magic looks like a good prospect going from the Antonio Sano barn to trainer Patrick Devereux. Touch Magic has won two of four races with two seconds. One of those seconds was in the Grade 3 Delta Princess, which has already produced at least one next out winner. The Lion Heart filly stretched her legs over the track a couple weeks ago in the morning and picks up a top rider in James Graham. Leading rider Rosie Napravnik gets on Smitten, who is trained by Larry Jones. Post 11 won't help the chances of the Fox Hill Farm owned filly, but she may just be up to the task.
Tough tough race. May be one where "all" is the way to go.
Post time for the Silverbulletday is 5:25 ET. The pick four with the three stakes starts in race seven, a low level claiming race, post time 4:25.
