Race Preview - Wilshire Handicap - Hollywood Park, April 28, 2013
There is a huge pick 6 carryover on Sunday at Hollywood Park of over $120,000 and one of the key races in the sequence is the Grade 3 Wilshire Handicap. The 52nd running of the one mile turf race drew a field of eight led by morning line favorite Moone's My Name.
Moone's My Name began her career in her native England where she won a total of six races in 17 starts with two seconds and four thirds. She won several handicap stakes across the pond and after her US debut where she finished second in the American Beauty, Moone's My Name looks like a deserved favorite. Unfortunately for her and the connections, the Wilshire did not come up easy. After the favorite there are five fillies and mares between 7-2 and 6-1 on the morning line.
Halo Dolly is the second choice looking for her first win since late October. She is one for one over the Hollywood turf course. Purim's Dancer and Nobilis are both 4-1 and drew next to each other in posts one and two. Purim's Dancer makes her first start around two turns in Sunday and may enjoy the stretch out. Nobilis kept some good company in France, but this mile distance may be too short for her. Her European ratings are on par with those of the favorite.
The two 6-1 choices are Esentepe and Byrony with Esentepe preferred. The Irish-bred was running in graded stake races in Ireland and England and is making her third start in the U.S. She was favored in both of those and now is a long shot. Expect better at an overlaid price
Post time for the Wilshire on Sunday is 7:35 pm ET. The pick 6 gets underway in race four at 5:34.
