Race Preview: Yonkers Harness - NYSS Bruce Hamilton Pace - $252,000 - Friday August 30th
There are two divisions in the NYSS Bruce Hamilton Pace for 3 year old fillies at Yonkers tonight, in races 1 and 3.
1-Cheyenne Miriam in the the very favorable 1 post is the 6/5 morning line favorite in Race 1. She has 9 wins out of 17 races, with 5 out of 7 wins at Yonkers. Being back at her favorite track should help, not that it looks like she needs any extra help.
4-Sir Lehigh Z Tam might be a contender in this one, judging by her speed figures. She's run at this level before and Pat Lachance does a good job of hitting the board with her.
6-Give Me An Amen has good speed figures also and may manage to overcome her post position for a piece of the purse.
3-Naughty Marietta may be a sleeper. She has Brian Sears driving and has Brian Malone, a trainer who knows how to get a horse ready to hit the board off a layoff. Her speed figures could be better, but adding Sears should add a few points to them if she's capable of it.
5-Road Bet has the very capable Marcus Miller in the bike but doesn't look like she's going to be able to keep up with the pace in this one. In 5 races at Yonkers, she's placed once and showed once.
2-My Shiyen has to be considered for exotics with 7 times in the exacta out of 11 races here, but she's more likely to place than win, if history is any indication.
In Race 3, the 2nd Division, 2-Summertime Lea is at 4/5. She may well win and looks very impressive with 2 out of 4 wins and 2 places at Yonkers. However, I just can't see any young horse being at such low odds in a sire stakes. Things happen, like placing instead of winning, which is the only thing that will give any value in this race.
There are three other horses that have won 2 races at Yonkers. 4-JK Black Beauty gets Jason Bartlett for trainer Linda Toscano and has won 2 out of 3 at Yonkers. Her speed figures are right up there where they need to be, but she'll need to stay close to the leaders if she wants to cinch this one.
5-Bettor Think Twice has 2 wins out of 4 races at Yonkers. Cat Manzi has her in the money almost 75% of the time and her last races were very contentious ones. From the 3 post, she closed to second from third and was parked out for part of the race.
1-Freetime also has won 2 races at Yonkers out of 6 races, but seems to be having a hard time getting organized this year. With a 5th, a 7th and a place, she hasn't had a win since last year.
3-Happy Apples hasn't posted anything like the speed figures she would need to win this one, although she has won here before at a lower level.
6-Park N Orchard has been reclaimed, yet again, by George Zitone and may be a better bet at a much lower level, but doesn't look like a serious threat in this company.
As always, safe trips to all the horses and drivers on tonight's program. Don't forget to watch and wager on Bet America where bonus tracks pay rewards.
