Race Previews: Orange Park and Palm Beach Kennel Club Labor Day 2013
Orange Park Kennel Club's Labor Day feature is the semi finals of the Jacksonville Sprint Classic Stakes. Twenty four greyhounds will compete in Races 7, 11 and 15.
In Race 7, the morning line oddsmaker evidently had a hard time finding a solid favorite and set the odds at 4/1 on three dogs: 3-Kay Outlaw, 6-My Present and 7-Country Stanley. This tells me that we're looking at a race that is difficult to handicap, although I wonder why 2-Warped wasn't included in the favorites. If I had to play a ticket in this race, I'd play some exotic keys using the 2-7-1-4.
In Race 11 there is a morning line favorite at 3/1 and that's 4-SNJ Black Porter. Last time out from the 4 box, he won by 10 and a half lengths in this series. And in his last race, he just missed by a neck. Presenting a serious challenge, I think, will be 5-Pat C Wind Up with 5 wins out of 10 races and a midtrack running style that fits here. She lacks class, but makes up for it with breaking speed. 5-4-6-3 are my picks in this race.
7-D'Bulls Tyvek is right where he wants to be in Race 15. At odds of 9/2, I think he's a good bet over and under in exotics. My picks are the 7-6-1-3 for this one.
Palm Beach Kennel Club is also having a Labor Day feature race, the final of the Gallagher-Kinnaird Puppy Stakes. It takes place in Race 12 and has an outstanding roster of runners. Billed as the Battle of Brain vs Brawn, this race could well be a match race between Relativity (Brain) and Rob Gronkowski (Brawn), unless one of the other very capable runners decides to spoil things by slipping by both of them to finish first.
2-Relativity has only lost one race in this series and still managed second in that one. He loves inside boxes and has one this time. He's also in between slower breaking dogs, which should give him an advantage. 5-Rob Gronkowski is also coming off 3 wins and a second in this series. However, his wins are all by at least 7 lengths and with blazing fast times. He's the 7/5 morning line favorite and deservedly so.
Poised to pounce if one of the leaders fails to fire are 7-Daphne Zuniga, always a good bet for exotics, and 3- Ethereal Elation. I'll take Brain over Brawn and pick the 2-5-7-3.
As always, safe trips and good racing luck to all the greyhounds on the programs at Orange Park and Palm Beach Kennel Club today. Don't forget to watch and wager on Bet America where greyhound programs are free and bonus tracks pay rewards.
