2014 Greyhound All America teams announced
The 2014 Greyhound All America teams have just been announced and Southland leads the way with two first team All Americans and a second team All American being selected among the 16 greyhounds chosen. Joey Ice from Derby Lane was chosen captain of the All-America team and the rest of the teams are listed below.
2014 All American first team
FLYING TITANIUM - Southland - 58 starts - 34-8-3-5 - won Southland People's Choice Challenge and ran second in both the Southland Sprint Derby and the Southland Darby Henry Sprint Championship.
U TOO PURE SILK - Southland - 53 starts - 22-8-7-7 - won the Southland Darby Henry Sprint Championship and finalist in both the Southland Sprint Derby and the Southland People's Choice Challenge. He was also a member of the 2013 Greyhound All America team.
JOEY ICE - Derby Lane - Chosen as Captain of the 2014 All-America team - 64 starts - 46-10-3-1 - won both the Derby Lane Sprint Class and Derby Lane Fall Sprint title.
HUSKER MAGIC - Derby Lane - 75 starts - 46-9-7-2 - won the recent Inaugural BetAmerica Daytona 550 National Championship race held at the Daytona Beach track - finished second in the Derby Lane Gold Trophy Juvenile, third in the Derby Lane Fall Sprint and fourth in the Derby Lane Sprint Classic.
LEE OPERA - Orange Park - 66 starts - 40-9-3-2 - winner of the Orange Park Sweet 16 Stake, the James J. Patton Silver Cup, the JGR Puppy Stake and the Orange Park Anniversary Stake. She was also in the BetAmerica Daytona 550 National Championship race.
BOC'S JOHN LUKE - Bluffs Run - 52 starts - 24-13-4-3 - winner of the Secretary Choice Stakes and the Bluffs Run Open, finished second in the Iowa Bred Classic. He was also a participant in the BetAmerica Daytona 550 National Championship race where he finished third.
KIOWA LEER LOYD - Wheeling - 51 starts - 24-7-8-2 - winner of the Wheeling Memorial Sprint Stake. He was also invited to participate in the BetAmerica Daytona 550 National Championship but wasn't able to run in the race due to an injury.
ROB GRONKOWSKI - Palm Beach - In 2014 he only had 11 starts - 10-0-0-0 - he was hurt in March and hasn't raced since. He was the winner of the 2014 He's My Man Classic and the Palm Beach St. Patricks Invitational and is also the track record holder.
