2016 Southland "Hound Madness Stakes"

April 2nd, 2016

The finals of the 2016 Hound Madness Stakes were held Friday evening at Southland Greyhound Park and Boc's Tony Romo put his mark in the record books with a hard fought but convincing win. Talk about an impressive and very talented greyhound, he was undefeated in each of the 6 rounds of this stakes contest and has now won 9 races in a row. Daily Prayer gave it her best shot and as she's been doing thru out this tournament, showed tremendous heart and determination in going paw to paw with the champion. She took the early lead and led by 2 1/2 lengths headed down the backstretch with a good chance at pulling the big upset. With that being said,  Boc's Tony Romo had other ideas and kicked it in high gear as they past the scoreboard and it wasn't long before he had taken the lead and he crossed the finish line with a 3 length win. As was expected he went off as the heavy bet favorite with odds at post time of 1/9. Congratulations to the Bussman Balakas Kennel, trainer David O'Keefe, the owners and all the connections associated with this outstanding greyhound.  Boc's Tony Romo proved to be the best and deservedly so and his greyhound racing future is extremely bright. Could there be an All - American award in his future, only time will tell but he sure is building a strong resume to be considered.
