The Grade 2, $430,000 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity at Los Alamitos has a rich history, dating back to its first running in 1982. On Saturday, October 1, another talented juvenile will add his name to the distinguished list of champions, which includes Hawkish, Tac It Like A Man, Stel My Corona and last year's winner, Ima Fearless Hero.
Start Somethin Bad, who set the fastest qualifying time of :17.69 in trials, has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite, and will break from post position five. The filly by Pappasito is trained by AQHA Champion trainer Paul Jones and will be ridden by top Los Al Quarter Horse jockey Cesar De Alba. Jones has won this stakes three times; DeAlba piloted 2009 PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity champion, Jumpn Beduino.

Second fastest qualifier Doctor Fantastic, an Idaho-bred gelding from the Lin Melton barn drew post nine and will be ridden by Carlos Huerta. Breaking from the far outside post is Kiddy Up Cowgirl, who also qualified for the Governor’s Cup Futurity. Another finalist garnering attention is Thirty Six Curls, a son of Tres Seis, who has won his last two starts at the Cypress, California. Cruz Mendez will ride for trainer Jose Flores.
In addition to the weekend's racing action, Los Alamitos is also hosting its annual Equine Sale on Saturday and Sunday morning, beginning at 10 a.m. The sale is open to the public. Post time for Saturday evening's card is 6:00 p.m. (PT). On Sunday evening, Los Alamitos will host three trials for the Wild West Futurity. Sunday's action gets underway at 5:15 pm.
