Another three to follow on Winsurance Wednesday at Delta Downs

February 22nd, 2017

Our first foray of the year into a Wednesday night program at Delta Downs last week proved successful literally in the final jump. First Prize Yankee got his head up in the final strides to win the fifth race and paid $16.40, more than making up for the disappointments of My Book and Include Indycat earlier in the card.

With that enticement to give it a go again this week, a reminder that playing Delta Downs has become more favorable this year with the 15% Rolling Double Bonus and the 30X Wednesday Winsurance promotions offered by TwinSpires.com.

Opting into both promotions allows players to get a 15% bonus on their gross Double earnings up to $500 per card, and to earn 2 TSC Elite Points per dollar wagered when they bet $10 or more on any race at Delta on Wednesdays. Qualifying players can also earn a bonus of 28 TSC Elite Points per dollar wagered if the fail to cash a ticket in the corresponding race on which they've wagered $10 or more.

Here's another trio of contenders I'll be taking a hard look at this evening:

Race 3: Tiz the Storm (#4, 9-2) wasn't quick enough to keep pace in her last couple of starts, but that might change as he stretches out to two turns for the first time and takes a significant drop in class into the selling ranks, also for the first time. Her debut against open maiden special weight company at Remington in November was as good a performance as turned in by anyone here, and the addition of Lasix might also help.

Race 4: Geraldton (#4, 10-1) has run well off previous minor spells and enters here off a  2 1/2-month freshening. Rises in class from a $5,000 N4L victory, but finished third against open $5,000 claimers two back, and this race is the same level except restricted to Louisiana-breds. Has tactical foot to be in good striking position under Kerwin Clark, who was aboard for the recent win, and should get an honest pace up front.

Race 6: Woof River Rose (#7, 4-1) might be the swiftest of this bunch, no bad thing at this short five-furlong trip. Faces state-breds here for the first time, an though she hasn't raced since mid-October and has three modest works on her tab, the barn is clicking at 39% this meet and the Berndt/Thornton combo also tends to win at a high percentage.
