Australia Racing Preview for 1/23/2014

January 24th, 2014

Night racing is back under way at Moonee Valley this Friday the 24th January with the $220,000(AUS) Essendon Mazda Grade 2 WFA Australian Stakes over 1200m. Not the strongest field we have seen for the running of this event, but nonetheless it’s a graded stakes race and we will be looking for the winner.  We will also take a look at the $150,000(AUS) Chandler Macleod Vobis Gold Star Handicap for the 3YR olds over 1500m. Then we thought we might as well take a quick trip up to Sydney and take a quick peek at Canterbury Racetrack  for the $100,000(AUS) Listed Canterbury Classic over 1100m.

MOONEE VALLEY – AUS A

RACE 6 - Essendon Mazda Grade 2 WFA Australian Stakes 1200M

Like I already stated, it’s not the best line up I have seen for a Grade 2 race, but it still creates interest for us handicappers. Based on his recent WFA efforts, MOMENT OF CHANGE looks like he is the standout horse here. He won't be chasing home the likes of Grade 1 stars Buffering or Shamexpress here at the Valley. Barrier 10 is probably the only thing that makes it a bit of an effort for him. He'll have to contend with ZEDI KNIGHT AND SEA LORD kicking up inside him. IT IS WRITTEN returns to his favourite track and most importantly he's drawn for a good run from his gate. RICHIE'S VIBE will be strong from midfield. ZEDI KNIGHT and GENERAL JACKSON next best. Check the betting moves regarding TOKUGAWA. If he's ready, he's capable of surprising them.

SELECTIONS – MOMENT OF CHANGE / IT IS WRITTEN / RICHIES VIBE

RACE 7 – CHANDLER MACLEOD VOBIS GOLD STAR HANDICAP 1500M

Hopefully we get to see a genuinely run race here. This is a good race with 7 last start winners engaged, and all show some degrees of promise. Top choice has to be TRUST IN A GUST. He's on trial at 1500m but looking at the way he won at Ballarat, it shouldn't be something that we hold against him. ALPHA BEAT won in quick time at Seymour. Expect the 1500m to suit nicely. MISS MAGGIEBEEL looks to be a strong danger. She will be most threatening if it is indeed genuinely run race. The win she posted at Flemington was above average. ADIRONDACK is drawn to box seat. He's another in very good form. DEL PRADO is next best in my opinion.

SELECTIONS – TRUST IN A GUST / MISS MAGGIEBEEL / ALPHA BEAT

CANTERBURY – AUS B

RACE 5 – CANTEBURY CLASSIC LISTED 1100M

The highlight of the Canterbury card attracts five 1st-uppers to take on resuming winner KNOYDART and the fittest here is TAHITIAN BLACK. HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME, No trial leading into this but that's been the approach before and his fresh record is very good. He has met PENTASIA twice - beat her comfortably when fresh at Eagle Farm last June but was behind her when trying to win back-to-back races. ADEBISI was behind them both, definitely below best when last seen but good enough if 100%?. SOOKIE has won two recent trials for the new camp. KNOYDART up from BM80? That’s the question mark on this one, but in great hands and looks ready to make the jump.

SELECTIONS – KNOYDART / TAHITIAN BLACK / HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME
