Australia Racing Preview for 2/13/2014

February 13th, 2014

by Grant Davies

Friday night racing again at Moonee Valley, is there a better way to start off the weekend and build that war chest for the big day at Flemington on Saturday? I think not! So let’s take a look at 3 races and see if we can’t get the ball rolling early and the money clip bulging!

MOONEE VALLEY – AUS A

RACE 4 - ESSENDON MAZDA 55 SECOND CHALLENGE HEAT 13 955m of $55000 (AUS)

Another small field assembled here but again one that is quite even across the board. The speed in this edition will more than likely come from LAMINGTONS and also UMGETON. If UMGETON can find her best here 1st up then she is the one to beat. She's competed strongly in a few better races than this around here in the past. LATEVA looks a good light weight shot if she is racing to her best form. PRETTYHAPPYABOUTIT has kept up the good work this time in this prep and she really is one of those horses that these races suit. ROYAL BENDER no doubt will be running on and is next best. It’s another tough edition of the sprint but that’s always the case so no need to panic.

SELECTIONS – UMGETON / PRETTYHAPPYABOUTIT / LAMINGTONS

RACE 5 - ART SERIES HOTEL GROUP HANDICAP 1600m of $35000 (AUS)

Another handy race on a very even Friday night card. Cannot lie, it is a field full of chances that can be argued from a lot of angles. REZONED was my first choice in this until she drew the outside, now she may just have to rely on too much luck, which dents her chances a little.  BERRICHON disappointed at Geelong but you have to be a realist and understand that everyone can have an off day, she's better than that. TUDOR ARMOV maps very nicely and I think her good Adelaide form will measure up. MAMBO LADY will appreciate as always getting out to a more genuine distance and she'll be competitive very again. PINDAN PEARL and DEVIL WOMAN can jump in to any multiples you may have.

SELECTIONS – TUDOR ARMOV / MAMBO LADY / REZONED

RACE 8 - SPORTINGBET BEST TOTE PLUS HANDICAP 1528m of $35000 (AUS)

Thought SWEET AS BRO might cross over and lead or sit outside the leader, but as to whom that leader may be, in all honesty it could be one of a quite a few. SWEET AS BRO impressed at Seymour. Have to concede subsequent form behind him hasn't been great but he won well and can only get better out to the 1528m. LONHTIME is the strong danger. She's drawn for a good run and this is a drop in grade. GOT TO WIN looks promising and is a strong 3rd pick.

SELECTIONS – SWEET AS BRO / LOHNTIME / GOT TO WIN
