Australia Racing Preview for 2/27/2014
Back to the home of ‘Night Racing’ before another big day at Flemington on Saturday with the Grade 1 Australian Guineas for the 3YR olds. Let’s take a peek at some of the shorter distance races and see if we can’t find some smart money.
MOONEE VALLEY – AUS A
RACE 3 - THE DRAIN MAN HANDICAP 1000m of $35000 (AUS)
Good race early in the night but by no means easy. We have a bunch of horses returning and a bunch that are last start winners. NEW YORK RAIN looks like an above average filly. She won well on return and looked to still have gas in the tank, there should be good speed here and I think she can get better. SRIKANDI looks like go time after her trials. JUST TOO HARD chased NEW YORK RAIN home well last start and tonight she's drawn for a nice trail. LEIA and DECADES are next best but this race is a tough one.

RACE 4 - BROWNS SAWDUST AND SHAVINGS HANDICAP 1200m of $35000 (AUS)
Another good 3yo race with an even field. The better hopes could be APPLE THIEF, after being gelded he has returned well and looks like he has a nice prep ahead of him. MATTAN will be wearing blinkers after his last start win and its suggested it will make him better. ARAGONESE ran well 1st up and looks better suited at this distance range. SCHALOT is resuming and he won well as a maiden then straight to grade 3 level with no luck, if he’s come on then he can win. CELERITAS is capable of putting in a good sprint fresh and PADDY'S GEM had excuses last time.
SELECTIONS – SHALOT / MATTAN / APPLE THIEF
RACE 5 - ESSENDON MAZDA 55 SECOND CHALLENGE HEAT 15 955m of $55000 (AUS)
As usual in these ‘Dash for Cash’ affairs there will be plenty of speed. CORSTONS BEAU with the inside gate will be very tough to beat. His first run in six months was superb and he’s had a nice month off t9o get rested and ready for this. SCHUMACHER has an awkward draw, however they have been running on in these races this season and he was unlucky last time. BEAUTY CASH is a definite chance again from yet another good barrier and has shown that form can measure up to the better races. MAGNUS REIGN is better suited back to this class, question will be can he can handle the back up. BLACKJACK BOY, TANSY next best.
