Australia Racing Preview for 2/28/2014
by Grant Davies

It’s Australian Guineas day at Flemington! The premier race for the autumn 3YR olds! Let’s see what we can find as we go in search of winning wagers and some greenbacks! With another 3 Graded races on the card there is some great racing and hopefully some great value to be had.
FLEMINGTON – AUS A
RACE 5 – GRADE 3 FRANCES TRESSADY STAKES 1400mOf $150000 (AUS)
FLORIA is the class here! Her last fresh run was good/closing 3rd against a good class of males. GOLDSLICK was excellent fresh against males after sitting wide no cover she still finished the race off well, 2nd-up last prep she won here against mares with 58kg. POWER PRINCESS had tempo against her fresh, she ran ok. Loved KOONOOMOO's fresh run given she raced tight and was very hot pre-race. SPENDING is in this, 1400m looks suitable now.
SELECTIONS – GOLDSLICK / FLORIA / KOONOOMOO
RACE 6 – GRADE 3 TAB REWARDS STAKES 1400m of $120000 (AUS)
MOURO went super 1st-up last prep, he is high-class. FAT AL went nicely at 1100m 1st-up last time in, the 1400m suits much better. STRAWBERRY BOY is 3 from 4 fresh, in the miss he shot away before the turn and was run over late, the run was very good, one of the horses that ran over him that day was HIGH ESTEEM (with 4kg less/ was 2nd-up coming off OK 3.6L 8th in Lawrence Stakes). DANY THE FOX & OUR HAND OF FAITH are both good chances too.
SELECTIONS – STRAWBERRY BOY / HIGH ESTEEM / MOURO
RACE 7 – GRADE 1 AUSTRALIAN GUINEAS 1600m of $500000 (AUS)
HUCKLEBUCK was too good for them in CS Hayes Stakes 2nd-up, his one mile run was very good 2nd here in Carbine Club Stakes. EUROZONE ran by SHAMUS AWARD fresh and that was G1 WFA grade, either side of these 3YO's was Moment Of Change (then won another G1) and Foreteller (G1 horse any day of the week) so slightly leaning their way. PRINCE HARADA; CRITERION; TERONADO (best closing splits) and THE QUARTERBACK were all sound behind HUCKLEBUCK. LATE CHARGE the best roughie for mine.
SELECTIONS – EUROZONE / SHAMUS AWARD / JUCKLEBUCK
RACE 8 – LISTED ATA/BOB HOYSTED HANDICAP 1000m of $120000 (AUS)
She is still not well weighted BRILLIANT BISC however she beat home a few of today's key rivals fresh at
Caulfield then was far from disgraced in G1 WFA Lightning Stakes last time. PAGO ROCK has 60kg but is in OK relative weights, his Lightning Stakes run was good! EL MAGICO has terrific 1000m form; MIRACLES OF LIFE is unbeaten at 1000m. ADAMANTIUM and HALLE ROCKS are hopes, as is AFRICAN PULSE going on that 1st-up run behind BRILLIANT BISC.
SELECTIONS – BRILLIANT BISC / PAGO RICK / MIRACLES OF LIFE
