Australia Racing Preview for 4/3/2014

April 3rd, 2014

by Grant Davies

Friday night racing takes us out to Cranbourne and with a huge day of racing upon us tomorrow at Rosehill it would be nice just to get the ball rolling and find a few winners so we could get our confidence up and have some money to play with! Let’s see if we can’t do just that and get the weekend off to a great start!

CRANBOURNE – AUS A

RACE 5 - TAB.COM.AU F&M 0 - 64 HANDICAP 1400m Of $17500. (AUS)

Speed is unclear here and this looks like a wide open race. ETERNAL CIRCLE ran very well at Mornington last time behind a promising mare. If she runs to that she will be tough to beat in this event. AUNTIE BEVERLEY was very competitive in a similar race to this last time. MEAN STREAK has blinkers going on and must be considered fitter now she has had two runs back. CHARITY BELLE did enough 1st up to be a chance here and MITFORD SISTER is drawn for a good run. SHARP LOOKER is next best in this tough affair.

SELECTIONS – ETERNAL CIRCLE / AUNTIE BEVERLEY / MEAN STREAK

RACE 6 - BROWNS SAWDUST & SHAVINGS 0 - 64 HANDICAP 1200m of $17500 (AUS)

The potential is there for good speed, ROCKEDLY was good in a race like this last start. This is start no.10 this prep but if he runs to that latest effort he'll go very close. NADAKA will appreciate the drop in grade and the handy 3kg claim. MARTHICK did enough in the same race as ROCKEDLY last time. SCAPA COVE's maiden win was unspectacular but good enough for this and I fancy the 1200m will suit. No shock to see HOLLYWOOD GOTHIC charging home again. HUSSAVI has a hope on his best form, so if he brings it he’s a chance.

SELECTIONS – NADAKA / ROCKEDLY / HOLLYWOOD GOTHIC

RACE 7 - PROCON DEVELOPMENTS SHOWCASE 0 - 64 HANDICAP 2025m of $30000 (AUS)

ALFILER has the blinkers back on and that means he may lead, handy race. The 3yos could hold the key to this race. On his best form there is no doubt that SURGING WAVE is the one to beat. Can make excuses for both runs this prep. The blinkers have been added back to him. If we get genuine speed then he'll be rushing home. AKAGERA looks ready to win if you take into consideration that she beat home SURGING WAVE last time. Her stable mate SOUTHERN METEOR had excuses in the same race so we cannot count that out. MORE REWARDING has an awkward gate but shapes like 2025m will be a suitable distance.

SELECTIONS – SURGING WAVE / AKAGERA / MORE REWARDING

RACE 8 - TRIOS AFTER THE LAST SHOWCASE BM70 HANDICAP 1600m of $30000 (AUS)

It's a tough finish. Down page, the better chances could be SOLOMON'S SONG (from the box seat), AMBER CAVALIER (in very good form), EXCITED SPIRIT (should be ready now), LE MANS (seems drawn for a good run), KAFIL (2nd up at 1600m should suit him), CRYSTALISED (returns for new stable, trialled ok) and BET YOU SHE ROCKS (no weight, 1600m??).

SELECTIONS – EXCITED SPIRIT / SOLOMONS SONG / AMBER CAVALIER
