Australia Racing Preview for 5/29/2014
by Grant Davies
The Geelong synthetic track is the destination for today’s racing in Australia, so why don’t we take a quick peek and get some bank built for the graded stakes races tomorrow.
GEELONG – AUS A
RACE 2 - PREMIER FRUITS GROUP MAIDEN PLATE 1200m $17,500 (AUS) 2YO
BACK TO LIFE gave Mornington Wednesday a miss for this race and it looks a smart move. This race does look easier. He pulled up with a slow recovery after finishing 2nd to the talented Force Command on debut. Force Command was group placed last preparation. GRANDMASTER DASH also gave Mornington a miss for this. He races well on this circuit. 2yo ACCIDENTAL MIGRANT looks a likely improver out to 1200m. Winkers go on TWILIGHT SHIFT after failing as favourite here 1st up. JELLY NASH is probably my next best.
SELECTIONS – BACK TO LIFE / ACCIDENTAL MIGRANT / GRANDMASTER DASH
RACE 5 - VELI VELISHA PRODUCE SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1900m $30,000 (AUS)
This will be a competitive race. MISTER MONEYPENNY was good here last start in one of these with a lot of luck. He was jumping from the 1300m to the 1900m so he might be a little bit fitter for today's race. STORMY BILL continues to race very well and must be a strong chance again. SEATTLEITE was weighted to win last time but he did it well and the handicaps haven't been unkind to him again. MEZULLA is flying and brings a different form line and I can't see 1900m posing a major problem here. HIGH DESIGN is my next best.
SELECTION – MISTER MONEYPENNY / STORMY BILL / MEZULLA
RACE 7 - MILANAS LINGERIE & SWIMWEAR BOUTIQUE SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1300m $30,000 (AUS)
Down the page, CHOW MEOW (going far too well to ignore despite the 61kg), CROSS OF GOLD (fitter, if they can swoop, he will be coming fast), PROVIDENCE (drawn to be closer in run this time), MOSSAILEY (from the box seat), QUICKSILVER LASS (forgive last run, fitter, but this is D-day), ROUEN (fitter for recent racing, goes well here at this track), HUSSAVI and COURT ORDER (won't know himself with just the 54kg) are the ones I'll be considering in a tough race.
SELECTIONS – CROSS OF GOLD / MOSSAILEY / ROUEN
