Australia Racing Preview for 6/24/2014
by Grant Davies
This week we have the synthetic track being utilized down at GEELONG! Given the way the tracks have been an absolute wreck at the moment due to the wet weather, this looks like a good chance to make some money on a decent surface.
GEELONG – AUS A
RACE 3 – GEELONG CUP PACKAGES 22ND OCTOBER 0 - 84 HANDICAP 1200m $35,000 (AUS)
Small field but it's a pretty decent race. You can make a case for all of them. 7yo MERCHANT hasn't raced since Oct'12 in Singapore. He does boast a 2nd to world class sprinter Rocket Man but it has to be noted that was a while ago in 2011. Check the betting on this fella. SIR FERNANDO with 53.5kg appeals. He's proven on this surface with 3 starts for 3 good runs. He's carried huge weights here of late. BIG BUDDIE is another with experience here. He'll make sure to give a sight. SUPREME WARRIOR tackles this surface for the first time but just may fancy it. He's drawn for a good run. DAYBREAK gets in light after the claim. INFINITE ENERGY did enough 1st up.
SELECTIONS – SIR FERNANDO / BIG BUDDIE / SUPREME WARRIOR
RACE 4 - B & B ALUMINIUM PRODUCTS MARES BM78 HANDICAP 1200m $35,000 (AUS)
LA VENTA impressed in a recent jump-out at Caulfield and she might be too good for these mares, we will find out soon enough. Expect NAVORINA to cross and lead and LA VENTA might be the one sitting 2nd. She looks a genuine Saturday city class mare in the making and the 1200m 1st up should suit. NADEEM LASS is class horse on its day and an obvious danger. She's got a race fitness edge on them. She ran well on this surface 1st up. Not sure TRUSTAM is in the same league but she's fit and in good honest form. HAMAM and NAVORINA next best.
SELECTIONS – LA VENTA / NADEEM LASS / TRUSTAM
RACE 5 - ELEPHANT & CASTLE HOTEL F&M BM84 HANDICAP 2100m $35,000 (AUS)
Liked the Victorian debut of KNEAD THE DOUGH at Sandown. While D Dunn was giving the winner GREEN ROLLER a great run on speed, this one wasn't in the best of spots. She did very well to hold 3rd. ZAZPARELLA comes through the same race with a solid 2nd. From a good draw expect her to settle closer this time round. GREEN ROLLER must go in also despite a rise back up in the weights. Concede chances to GOD HELP HER (proven here, gets nice weight drop) and BLUE RIBBON (out to 2100m might help).
SELECTIONS – GREEN ROLLER / ZAZPERELLA / KNEAD THE DOUGH
RACE 6 - CHARLES ROSE JEWELLERS 3YO BM78 HANDICAP 1300m $35,000 (AUS)
CHARLES IN CHARGE should lead these if Steve Arnold chooses. CHARLES IN CHARGE and WEINHOLT have the city form but here are some promising types who have some strong provincial form on this surface. Forgive CHARLES IN CHARGE's last run. He went too hard in front and helped set it up for a swooper's race. He was good 1st up in a 0-84. WEINHOLT ran well at MV 1st up. It was tough to make ground by his race on that day. WINDY CITI BEAR is untapped. PRIX D'OR is relishing this surface.
SELECTIONS – CHARLES IN CHARGE / WEINHOLT / PRIX D’OR
