Australia Racing Preview for 7/29/2014

July 29th, 2014

Racing will kick off at Moonee Valley this weekend but before that happens; we have a nice little meet taking place midweek at good old Geelong. I reckon we just might be able to fatten up the wallet for the weekend.

GEELONG SYNTHETIC – AUS A

RACE 5 - CONNECT TEL SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1200m $30,000 (AUS)

Handy race this one. I am thinking that ORVIETO will be all the rage here. Her jump-outs in preparation for this look good enough. She was a beaten odds on fav in town before spelling. It was suggested she'd come to the end of her prep and her start was average. The race fit COSTA PLENTY is the danger. On dry ground he's got a good record. ESPRIT'S CHOICE is fresh after 3 solid 2nd placing’s this prep. GRANE gets some weight relief off a strong effort here last time, so you must respect that! HOLY HEART strips fitter and has a nice weight swing on COSTA PLENTY.

SELECTIONS – ORVIETO / GRANE / COSTA PLENTY

RACE 6 - HYGAIN FEEDS SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1000m $30,000 (AUS)

Another handy race for this grade of horses and I’ll be tipping ELUSIVE SHINE who resumes. His best run last prep was his return win at Traralgon by an impressive 6L margin. Like the way he went recently in a strong jump-out. DOCKING has trialled well on the Cranbourne synthetic for his return, and he's drawn well. SASSY TYCOON played up at the gates last start. I am inclined to forget that. No idea what to think of WEST AFRICA although tough to write one off after a heavy track and straight run. SPENCER STREET was good 1st up. ETERNAL CIRCLE next best

SELECTIONS – ELUSIVE SHINE / WEST AFRICA / SPENCER STREET

RACE 7 - SPORTINGBET SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1300m $30,000 (AUS)

Tough race here to finish it all off. Down the page, the better hopes could be SMASHING DOUBT (sound here 1st up in similar race, drawn well and with Rodd on board a big plus), HAMAM (might go better with a quiet ride but she was weak last time), GARRETT COUNTY (fairly plain last time after nice maiden win, that could be 2nd race blues and maybe gate 1 helps), ASTRA DELIGHT (handy 3yo resuming for new stable, betting a guide?), BARE KNUCKLE (fit and in good form on this surface), DILLON HALL (no luck last time, drawing out is better) and PURRCOLATE (excuses last time, drawn for a soft run).

SELECTIONS – SMASHING DOUBT / BARE KNUCKLE / ASTRA DELIGHT
