Australia Racing Preview: Golden Slipper

Another huge day of racing at Rosehill Gardens as we get to watch the battle of the best 2YR olds Australia has to offer in the richest 2YR old race in the world, The AAMI Golden Slipper! $3.5 Million is up for grabs and it will be amazing! But let’s not forget, we also have a few other Graded stakes races as well and that includes yet another two Grade 1 race, The BMW and the VINERY STUD STAKES! This is going to be a great day!
ROSEHILL GARDENS – AUS A
RACE 2 – GRADE 3 TAB.COM.AU NEVILLE SELLWOOD STAKES 2000m of $150000 (AUS)
It’ more than likely that JUNOOB will be able to take up a front half position and should find the right sort of trail here today. He thrashed decent opposition last start and got close to Carlton House prior, although he did have a 7kg advantage. He has got better this prep and this is a good race for him. Some of the opposition is pretty handy, namely stable mate MORIARTY who as we know has from out of G1 races. ENTIRELY PLATINUM yet another Hawkes trained runner on a winning streak, which is always a good sign. This race shapes as harder again from last start but he's hard to leave out.

RACE 3 – GRADE 3 SEBRING STAKES 1200m of $150000 (AUS)
THAT'S A GOOD IDEA will be in this right to the wire. He's got to jump away better than he did last time and I am confident he will. He's won in Sydney six times and he has been up front in each of them, Schofield senior aboard in all six. TEMPLE OF BOOM is the class runner here but he just cannot seem to get a win anymore. HOT SNITZEL is coming off a nice trial win and I think he may just go well here fresh. LILLIBURLERO is the other I think can maybe get the prize here, runs well this track and is in good form.

RACE 4 – GRADE 2 ASCEND SALES TROPHIES EMANCIPATION STAKES 1500m of $175000 (AUS)
On paper this seems to be a race with no leader. CATKINS looks well in at these weights and everything about her latest three runs says she'll be terribly hard to hold out. She's taken the step up to G1 level very well both last start and at the end of last prep and only harsh judges would say she doesn't have a G1 win in her future. SHARNEE ROSE will put in a good effort and she was just behind CATKINS in the coolmore so she’s a chance. WISTFUL was a cert beaten last start and she can compete here, beware. The Gai horse, DIAMOND DRILLE might surprise if the track is wet enough.

RACE 6 – GRADE 1 THE BMW 2400m of $1500000 (AUS)
No real leader. Possibly ANGOLA? SILENT ACHIEVER went very close to winning this 12 months ago coming from last but she probably has to be in attendance after her Ranvet run. She doesn't have Carlton House to bring her up here but she is that thing that punters should never look too far away from - a mare in form. IT'S A DUNDEEL seemingly had his chance to bridge the gap on her over 2000m but was left about 2L off. Critically he is 3rd-up today. FIORENTE was 3rd-up and disappointing in same race but genuine excuses as I see it and could bounce right back to the top of the tree.

RACE 7 – GRADE 1 VINERY STUD STAKES 2000m of $400000 (AUS)
Have to expect SOLICIT to lead with the Waterhouse pair - 12 and 15 - close and handy at the very least. It's a matter of how you want to line them all up - the locals against not only Melbourne fillies but a formidable looking trio from NZ (one of which, LUCIA VALENTINA, has helpfully had two runs out here). Good chance for RISING ROMANCE despite her being still in her first prep. ZANBAGH is going along beautifully and this is just right for her, hard to beat here. MARIANNE has C.Williams on board so that is a definite bonus and she will get her chance here.
Presuming no scratching’s we have 8 males, 8 fillies to contest. Since 1999 we have had 8 fillies and 6 males win the race. No surprises from me in the top two tips here EARTHQUAKE has been unstoppable and I don’t think it changes here. MOSSFUN will give it a shake but I think that class is against her here today. Host of chances for the other placing so choose between APLHA MISS, CORNROW, BRING ME THE MAID and maybe BELIEVE YOURSELF AND UNEMCUMBERED.
