Preakness (G1) winner Journalism has been installed as the 8-5 favorite in his rematch with Kentucky Derby (G1) hero Sovereignty in Saturday's $2 million Belmont (G1) at Saratoga.
Journalism, runner-up as the Derby favorite, came back to post a dramatic victory in Sovereignty's absence in the Preakness. The Michael McCarthy pupil drew well in post 7 in an eight-horse Belmont field.
Sovereignty, who has been freshened since toppling Journalism at Churchill Downs, rates as the 2-1 second choice on the morning line. Baeza, a fast-finishing third in the Derby, is a 4-1 chance to emulate half-brother Dornoch, last year's Belmont winner.
Wood Memorial (G2) winner Rodriguez, who missed the Derby and Preakness with a bruised foot, and Peter Pan (G3) victor Hill Road are the most intriguing of the rest at 6-1 and 10-1, respectively.
The third jewel of the Triple Crown highlights an action-packed Belmont Stakes Racing Festival that runs from Wednesday through Sunday. The Belmont is carded as the 13th of 14 races at the Spa on Saturday, with a post time of 7:04 p.m. ET.
