Beaten a neck by Golden Tempo in the Kentucky Derby (G1), Renegade is favored to gain revenge in Saturday's $2 million Belmont (G1) at Saratoga. The Todd Pletcher trainee rates as the 2-1 favorite on the morning line for the third jewel of the Triple Crown, where he is better drawn in post 4 compared to the rail at Churchill Downs.
Bill Mott's Chief Wallabee, fourth after traffic in the Derby, is projected to go off as the second choice at 3-1. Golden Tempo, who put Cherie DeVaux into the record book as the first woman to train a Kentucky Derby winner, has been installed as the 9-2 third choice.
Two more Derby alumni are pegged at 6-1, seventh-placer Commandment and 10th Emerging Market. The Brad Cox-trained Commandment, who edged Chief Wallabee in both the Fountain of Youth (G2) and Florida Derby (G1), gets a rider change to Hall of Famer John Velazquez.
Emerging Market, who beat Golden Tempo two back in the Louisiana Derby (G2), is one of a trio for Chad Brown along with classic newcomers Growth Equity (12-1) and Ottinho (20-1).
The 158th Belmont Stakes is carded as the 13th of 14 races on Saturday, with a post time of 7:04 p.m. ET.
