Breeders Cup Supper Tournament

October 29th, 2015

What's the best thing to do after Breeders Cup Friday? How about getting into a $2500 guaranteed tournament on races at Charles Town and Delta Downs? As most horseplayers know, the Breeders Cup can be a boon to the bankroll. Where else can you get overlay odds on top contenders in race after race?

But, we also know that the Breeders Cup can bust your bankroll. It would be nice to have some cash on hand for the big races on Saturday. This is especially true after blowing some of it on the Friday Breeders Cup races. Friday's Breeders Cup Supper Tournament is the perfect place to get in on potentially profitable action for a limited investment. Check out the two tournaments for Friday night:

$2,500 Supper Tournament

  • Races from Charles Town & Delta Downs
  • $11 Entry Fee; Limited to 250 entries

$1,000 High Roller Tournament

  • Races from Charles Town & Delta Downs
  • $109 Entry Fee; Limited to 10 entries

One thing to remember is that both tournaments are handcuffed style, meaning that once the first race starts in each tournament, you won't be able to make any changes. Let's pick some winners!

Charles Town

Race 4 - 7 furlongs Claiming, Purse $10,500

5-CR Case's Monster 4/1 - With favorite Casanova Calling and Reach for the Gold breaking from the inside, CR Case's Monster could have something to chase in this 7 furlong race. The chalk, Casanova Calling, will be tough to beat, but at Charles Town 2 to 1 shots can easily drop to 4/5 odds. I'll play the horse whose odds are likely to drift.

Race 5 - 4 1/2 furlongs Starter Optional Claiming, Purse $19,000

9-Rico Capote 5/1 - Chris Englehart trains the 9, a horse that goes into this off of a terrible performance from a speed figure stand point. A bounce back isn't assured and this race came up tough, but Rico Capote probably wouldn't have to bounce back too much in order to win this and there are so many other contenders that he's likely to hold his odds.

Race 6 - 7 furlongs Claiming, Purse $14,000

5-One Rosey Cork 9/2 - It makes sense to take a bit of a stab in this race. Jockey C. Hiraldo is 40% in the money. Trainer R. Butts Jr. is 41% in the money. Together the pair is in the money over 30%. There are other great jockey/trainer combos, but this race is competitive. The hope is that like what often happens at Charles Town the bigger favorites get overbet.

Race 7 - 61/2 furlongs Allowance, Purse $26,000

4-Emblem's Estate 5/2 - Slip the Cable is 2 to 5 on the morning line. The only horse that appears capable of keeping this close is Emblem's Estate. Play the second choice, who might constitute backing a long shot if Slip the Cable's odds go down even further than the morning line odds.

Race 8 - 4 1/2 furlongs Maiden Special Weight, Purse $25,000

7-Bay Apache 9/2 - Bay Apache looks well-suited to break the maiden in this race. Based on the morning line odds, no horse is going to be a heavy favorite. Bay Apache could be that favorite, or the R. Langley trainee could go off at higher odds than either King of Anything or Bopzilla. The speed ratings suggest that Bay Apache is a real contender.

Delta Downs

Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs Maiden Claiming, Purse $18,000

3 - Mr. Westbirdathebar 5/1 - Sierra Delta could be an odds on favorite in this. Mr. Westbirdathebar ran a last race speed rating that should put the E. Martin Jr. ridden horse into the mix. Let's start off with a nice 5/1 (or higher!) shot for the races at Delta Downs on Friday night.

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs Claiming, Purse $10,500

6 - Charlie and I 3/1 - Once in a while, you have to throw a favorite into the mix. Charlie and I sure looks like a solid favorite. The best speed rating is well above any other horse's speed rating in this. Not only that but his last race speed rating is higher than any of the other contenders yet his morning line odds are only 3 to 1. He could drift down, but Charlie and I shouldn't drift too far.

Race 8 - 5 furlongs Allowance, Purse $30,500

7 - Indygo Rocket 7/2 - Goes into this off of the highest last race speed rating of any of the other contenders. Indygo Rocket is third choice on the morning line and should hold those odds since 5-Thievery is trained by Steve Asmussen. Will get a nice trip from post position 7.

Race 9 - 1 Mile Magnolia Stakes, Purse $100,000

7-Heatseeker Sharon 7/2 - Jockey C. Hernandez gets his mounts into the money 56% of the time. Trainer F. Leggio's horses get into the money 47% of the time. Heatseeker Sharon is awfully fast. She could go gate-to wire in this.

Good luck to all of you playing BetAmerica's Friday after the Breeders Cup Supper Tournament!
