Betting With, and Against, One Nine Hundred in the Chick Lang Stakes

May 15th, 2025

A deep field of 11 sophomores will dash six panels on the Pimlico dirt in Saturday’s $150,000 Chick Lang S. Impressive maiden victor #8 One Nine Hundred (7-2) is the slight morning-line choice in the competitive heat for trainer Tom Morley. By Dialed In, the $240,000 purchase missed by a neck on debut prior to running second to subsequent stakes star Colloquial in his second lifetime assignment. The bay colt made good third time out with a stylish, seven-length maiden stroll where he registered a solid 98 Brisnet Speed figure for the second consecutive time.

One Nine Hundred – With

One Nine Hundred – Against

  • $1 trifecta 3,7,9 with 3,7,8,9,11 with 3,7,8,9,11 ($36)

One Nine Hundred has ample speed from the gate but doesn’t need the lead to run well, and he comes in fresh off a trio of solid morning drills, too. Flavien Prat will pilot the talented Kentucky-bred.

#3 Ancient World (6-1) went last-to-first in a debut tally at Fair Grounds, which preceded a visually impressive allowance win at Keeneland in his second career endeavor. The $525,000 son of Into Mischief has a high ceiling, and in a cast with a good amount of pace, he could sit the right trip from off of the early tempo with Jose Ortiz taking the reins.

#7 Faster Gator (6-1) has improved his Brisnet Speed figure with each lifetime run and is a head from being unbeaten for conditioner Anthony Farrior. The Vekoma colt continues to train in swift fashion in advance of his second stakes try, and I expect the dark bay to be rounding into contention as the field approaches the turn for home in this spot with regular pilot Arnaldo Bocachica retaining the mount.

#9 Perfect Force (9-2) has shown vast improvement in his three-year-old campaign and was last seen splitting the field in the tough Pat Day Mile S. (G2) at Churchill Downs two weeks prior. The expensive son of Gun Runner will be a major player with his best performance with Nik Juarez in the stirrups.

Cherie DeVaux’s #11 Retribution (12-1) will need to move forward and also negotiate a sensible voyage from the widest post slot, but the son of Vekoma has displayed ability from two career outings and will have Irad in the silks, as well. The top-three threat will be doing his best work inside the final furlong at a price.
