Beychok Bets Like No Other to Build Breeders’ Cup Charity Bankroll

October 3rd, 2016

A quartet of (in)famous handicappers took on the first of two Super Saturday Breeders’ Cup prep days this past Saturday (October 1), and it was “The Champ” Michael Beychok who came out ahead of the four pack.

Beychok, who in 2012 won the National Handicapping Championship, used sharp opinions in the Win & You’re In two-year-old races to pad his bankroll: he bet $20 to win on Gormley at 10.8-to-1 in the Frontrunner (and added the exacta with favored Klimt), and hit the exacta in the Chandelier when his top pick Zapperkat finished behind Noted And Quoted and With Honors.

The $397.40 profit means Beychok has $2,397.40 to bet this coming weekend on Win And You’re In races from Belmont, Keeneland, and Santa Anita as well as the World Championships themselves November 4-5 at Santa Anita.

Also in the plus column after week 1 is broadcaster Kenny Mayne, who used old-fashioned win bets on Vosburgh winner Joking and Zenyatta winner Stellar Wind to improve his balance to $2,250.

Writer Joel Stein bet $238 (after scratches) also cashed on Stellar Wind, but that was his only win of the day, so his original $2,000 bankroll is down to $1,894.50. Handicapper and sports bettor Monique Vag took the biggest swing of the four players this past weekend, and though she came up empty, she still has $1,412 with which to wager.

The four-person “wagering influencer” panel is a part of the Breeders’ Cup’s Bet Like No Other Wagering promotion that also includes on-track marketing initiatives and advertising leading up to the Breeders’ Cup.

TwinSpires.com has donated the $8,000 for the influencers to bet, and all returns will go to the charities of each influencer's choosing with the Breeders' Cup guaranteeing at least a $1,000 donation to each charity.
