Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies -- Jamyson 'n Ginger

November 2nd, 2016

Jamyson ‘n Ginger – 3-1-0-1, $55,500

Owner: Magic Cap Stables
Trainer: Rudy Rodriguez
Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr.

Jamyson ‘n Ginger makes her stakes bow in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), but that may not stop the Rudy Rodriguez filly from taking home the top prize

The bay lass began her career, as many do, sprinting. She finished third in a 6 1/2-furlong Saratoga maiden on the good main track before suffering a well-beaten fifth at Belmont Park next out on September 11 while going six furlongs.

Jamyson ‘n Ginger found herself running in last against 11 rivals after taking up at the break in that maiden contest. The Bernardini filly was still last heading into the turn but finally began picking off rivals upon hitting the stretch. She ran between rivals and got up to be fifth while never in contention after being so far back.

The Kentucky-bred miss stayed at Belmont and made her third start a month later over a sloppy, sealed track stretching out to a mile. This time the diminutive filly stayed close to the front, just outside the pacesetter, on the backstretch. She kept the pressure on and moved up to run in tandem rounding the turn before taking over and easily drawing off to be 15 lengths clear on the wire.

Jamyson ‘n Ginger earned a Juvenile Fillies field-best 100 BRIS Speed rating for her maiden victory and will try to duplicate that performance at the top level on Saturday.
