Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies -- Valadorna

Valadorna – 2-1-1-0, $44,600
Owner: Stonestreet Stables LLC
Trainer: Mark Casse
Jockey: Julien Leparoux
Valadorna took two tries to break her maiden and enters the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) off her initial victory at Keeneland on October 7.
The Mark Casse trainee kicked off her career at Churchill Downs on September 16 going a mile. She broke from the rail but found herself in last early. The bay miss stayed on the inside and methodically picked off runners while drawing ever closer to the front. She was in midpack heading into the turn and angled out to chase the top two entering the lane. Inching ever closer, Valadorna just ran out of room late to finish a length behind in second.
The daughter of Curlin made the trip to Keeneland for her next outing, which proved a six-length success. Facing 11 rivals while going 1 1/16 miles, she broke in the center of the track from her nine post and found herself going wide on the turn. Valadorna made her way forward from midpack and was in the third flight of runners upon hitting the backstretch. She settled in an outside stalking spot before kicking into gear while wide once again on the turn.
That didn’t stop the Kentucky-bred, who easily took over and drew off as the 4-5 favorite. She’s not likely to reach those odds in the Juvenile Fillies but could still run away with this one in her third career start.
