The History of the Irish Champion Stakes

Established in 1976 as the Joe McGrath Memorial Stakes, the Irish Champion Stakes is run annually at the Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin, Ireland. In 2009 the race was included into the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series, with winners gaining an automatic bid to participate in the Breeders' Cup Turf.
