The History of the Ogden Phipps Stakes

Inaugurated in 1961, the Ogden Phipps Stakes is a Grade 1 Throughbred race run annually at Belmont Park in New York. Named for the famed owner/breeder and native New Yorker Ogden Phipps, the race winners gain an automatic entry into the Breeder's Cup Distaff as part of the Breeder's Cup Challenge Series. Notable winners of the race include the two-time American Champion Filly Songbird (2007) and Hall of Famer Ashado (2005).
