Brown duo flex muscles in Breeders’ Cup Turf divisions

August 15th, 2019

Defending Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) heroine Sistercharlie exuded her considerable class yet again when dominating her competition in the Beverly D. S. (G1) for the second straight season on August 10. Trained by Chad Brown, the prohibitive 2-5 favorite rated well behind her pacesetting stablemate Thais to the top of the stretch at Arlington Park, and the mare showed why she is the clear leader in her division when cruising home a facile winner. Sistercharlie was three lengths clear under the wire beneath regular rider John Velazquez to notch her fifth consecutive win, and she appears on the path to more Breeders’ Cup glory. My current top six in the Filly & Mare Turf division (North America only)
  1. Sistercharlie – The queen wears her crown well
  2. Rushing Fall – Four-time Grade 1 heroine continues to impress
  3. Concrete Rose – Standout sophomore has yet to be challenged this year
  4. Homerique – Diana (G1) third has been sharp since coming to the U.S.
  5. Vasilika – Former claimer is a sensational 11-for-12 at Santa Anita
  6. Beau Recall – Yellow Ribbon (G2) winner has never been better
In the Arlington Million (G1), Brown’s Bricks and Mortar continued his domination in running his seasonal win streak to five. The five-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway picked up his fourth Grade 1 tally of 2019 with a measured, three-parts of a length score beneath Irad Ortiz Jr., and is a clear number one on the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) leaderboard. The 1-2 favorite is making an especially strong case for Horse of the Year honors, too, and he simply towers over his foes on U.S. ground. The Kentucky-bred is 10-for-12 lifetime with a pair of third-place results and it doesn’t appear that he will lose anytime soon. The Turf top six (North America Only)
  1. Bricks and Mortar – Superstar has been untouchable in 2019
  2. Ya Primo – Big runner-up in the Bowling Green (G2) in U.S. debut
  3. Channel Maker – Grade 1 winner continues to run well for Bill Mott
  4. Sadler’s Joy – 2018 BC Turf (G1) third will improve off of Bowling Green
  5. Tiz a Slam – Roger Attfield charge has romped in three straight on the front end
  6. Channel Cat – Improving four-year-old has found his niche marathoning
