Caren wires Wonder Where

Robert Marzilli's Caren made the lead and never looked back en route to a comfortable three-length score in Sunday's $190,993 Wonder Where Stakes, the third leg of the filly Triple Tiara, at Woodbine.

Trained by Mike DePaulo, the bay daughter of Society's Chairman competed in all three legs of the Triple Tiara. Caren finished third in the Woodbine Oaks before taking the second leg, the Bison City Stakes, in her familiar front-running fashion on July 10.

The start of the 1 1/4-mile Wonder Where was eventful as Wonderland, after being forced inward and bumping with favored Gamble's Ghost, lost jockey Jim McAleney.

That didn’t affect Caren, who was lining up in this turf event with regular rider Jesse Campbell in the irons. Sent off as the 5-1 second choice, the sophomore lass was away quickly and set a moderate pace with Conquest Dynasty and Neshama, the Woodbine Oaks winner, tracking her early foot.

Caren led the field to the top of the lane with a 3 1/2-length advantage and had plenty left in the tank to secure the three-length score, stopping the clock in 2:03.10 over the firm E.P. Taylor Turf Course. She paid $12.70 for the win.

Conquest Dynasty carried on for place, a neck in front of Swoop and Strike. Zermatta rallied to complete the superfecta as the 122-1 longest shot on the board.

An inquiry into the start of the race resulted in no changes.

Campbell was thrilled with the effort of Caren who he has now partnered to six added-money wins, including victories in the Shady Well Stakes, Nandi Stakes, Victorian Queen Stakes and Princess Elizabeth Stakes during the filly’s juvenile campaign.

“She was comfortable out there,” Campbell said. “The filly learned how to rate herself nice. She’s just a pro. She’s just gotten to where she doesn’t want me to be real aggressive any more. She’s given me everything she has to begin with. We let her do her thing, and she just keeps on truckin’.”

The versatile Caren has now won at distances ranging from 4 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/4 miles while competing in stakes company in all but her winning debut effort against maiden special weight rivals..

Caren – bred in Ontario by James A. and Janeane A. Everatt and J. Arika Everatt-Meeuse – improved her career record to read 12-7-2-2, $658,719. She is out of the unraced Vilzak mare Jo Zak, making her a half-sister to stakes heroine Zak’s Precocious and Grade 2 victress Jill Robin L.
