Santa Anita's Heating Up!

June 5th, 2014

Say what you want about California racing and the changes it's going through (ie: Hollywood closing, Del Mar going back to dirt, Santa Anita renaming historic stakes races)... they know how to build a tough Pick 6 sequence!

There's a $129k carryover today and - truly - I wouldn't be surprised if we roll over into Friday: I don't see a single single (ha!) in the series.

Santa Anita race 3 | 5 pm ET MSW for 2yo F going 5f

2-Bennett Jean ~ solid works into debut (see how this filly breezed at the OBS March sale by clicking here) 5-Champion Risk ~ short worktab into debut for O'Neill, who's also doing very well with Trujillo 6-Heart of Paradise ~ steady foundation for Hollendorfer 8-Screaming Skylar ~ nice work pattern into debut for Miller (see how this filly breezed at the OBS March sale by clicking here)

Hearing that 1-Meta Mu is training well and Kristin Mulhall's having a good meet, but leaving her off due to cost

Santa Anita race 4 | 5:30 pm ET OC 80k/C for 3&up F&M going 1 mi. (T)

2-Theatre Star ~ win machine was overmatched last out 6-Unusual Hottie ~ 2nd-itis gets class relief

Santa Anita race 5 | 6 pm ET Maiden (20) for 3&up F&M going 7f

2-Wine Country Wanda ~ jock upgrade to Talamo 3-Lust for Life ~ continued class drop

not using 8-Nonna Reese because I can't believe she's still a maiden: I remember clocking her into the debut back in 2012 - she's had enough chances

Santa Anita race 6 | 6:30 pm ET OC 20k/C for Cal-bred 3&up F&M going 1 mi. (T)

3-Wonderful Lie ~ just missed last out 4-Miss Well Molded ~ moves back to Miller off sneaky good effort

Not using 5-My Monet because of the drift last out, that tells me she may not be right. Also - on a side note - really nice to see Clifford Sise back training with the 2-Tiz a Kiss.

Santa Anita race 7 | 7 pm ET Claiming (16-14) for 3&up going 1 mi.

2-Fit to Rule ~ consistent speed looking for 4th straight win now for Miller off the claim 5-Graeme Crackerjack ~ now for D'Amato off the claim

I have a lot of love for 6-Macias as a racehorse, but even getting class relief, he seems to have lost a step lately. Also 3-Cook Inlet is a really consistent horse.

Santa Anita race 8 | 7:30 pm ET Claiming (40-35) for 3yo going 1 mi. (T)

7-Number Five ~ should appreciate the flat mile after several decent down-the-hill tries 8-Sir Macho ~ in off big work for red hot Baltas

I would also consider the 1-Al Baz (getting class relief for 2nd US start) and 4-Green Tag (class drop off the win for D'Amato)

This could be a really expensive ticket, so I've tried to whittle it down as best I could: for the $2 minimum... 2,5,6,8 / 2,6 / 2,3 / 3,4 / 2,5 / 7,8 ... $256 total
