Cash In, South Sea key to Stars of Tomorrow Late Pick 4 at Churchill Downs

Churchill Downs opens Sunday with a Stars of Tomorrow program for 2-year-olds and full fields add to the appeal of the Late Pick 4. The sequence begins in Race 7 and first-time starter #5 Cash In is the one to beat in the 6-furlong maiden event.

A half-sister to five stakes winners, the well-regarded Tapit filly shows a string of three consecutive bullet works over the track and should be a solid favorite with Brian Hernandez Jr.

A full field of 14 will contest Race 9, the inaugural running of the $300,000 Spendthrift Stallion, and I’m expecting further improvement from #5 South Sea in the 7-furlong test.

The Bill Mott-trained colt exits a nice maiden tally at Belmont Park, rallying to win going away as he registered commendable BRIS numbers for the one-length decision (88 Speed and 96 Late Pace). Joel Rosario will be in for the mount and South Sea is listed as the 5-1 co-second choice.

I’ll build a trio of Late Pick 4 tickets around Cash In and South Sea.

50-cent Pick 4 tickets (Races 7-10)

5 with 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 with 5 with 1,5,6,7,10,11,12 ($31.50)

5 with 2,4,5,6,8 with 4,12 with 1,6,7,10 ($20)

3,8 with 2,4,5,6,8 with 5 with 1,6,7,10 ($20)

Good luck!
