Catch a Glimpse looking to cap big week with Appalachian score

Catch a Glimpse can cap a big week for herself and her connections on Thursday by beating 10 rivals in the $125,000 Appalachian (G3) at Keeneland, a one-mile grass event for three-year-old fillies.

Last Friday evening at Woodbine, the daughter of City Zip was announced as the 2015 Horse of the Year in Canada. The first juvenile filly so honored since Ruling Angel, in 1986, Catch a Glimpse ran fifth in her debut at Saratoga before reeling off consecutive wins in a turf allowance and the Natalma (G2) at Woodbine, and then the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) at Keeneland.

Trained by Mark Casse, Catch a Glimpse kicked off 2016 on a winning note with a strong performance in the February 27 Herecomesthebride (G3) at Gulfstream, taking the 1 1/16-mile event by 2 1/2 lengths. Florent Geroux keeps the mount.

Baciami Piccola was unheralded, with one win it Italy from three starts in Europe last season, when she pulled off a 14-1 upset of the Florida Oaks (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs last month. The daughter of Equiano came from seven lengths back to win by a half-length in her debut for trainer Brian Lynch.

Also exiting the Florida Oaks are Princess Princess, who ran fourth at 34-1, and Ava's Kitten, who finished fifth as the 9-5 favorite for Chad Brown.

Dothraki Queen, who last fall won the Pocahontas (G2) before placing in the Alcibiades (G1), Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and Golden Rod (G2), returns to the turf for Ken McPeek. The Pure Prize filly won on debut over the surface, winning a one-mile maiden at Ellis Park by a commanding seven lengths.

Others with a chance to hit the frame include Sweetest Chant (G3) runner-up Spinamiss; Outsider Art, third in the Jessamine (G3) when last seen in October; and Auntie Joy, who has won two of three grass attempts for Brendan Walsh.
