Catch a Glimpse makes it a six-pack in Edgewood

The 3-2 favorite with hot-riding Florent Geroux, Catch a Gimpse carved out what has become her routine stalk and pounce trip. The daughter of City Zip prompted 31-1 longshot Born to Be Winner through splits of :23.34 and :47.59, took over at the six-furlong mark in 1:11.71, and scooted clear into the stretch. By reaching midstretch with a comfortable margin, and then reeling off her final sixteenth in :6.53, Catch a Glimpse set the closers too tough a task. Auntie Joy steadily cut the deficit to three-quarters of a length, but didn’t look like getting to the winner.
Harmonize, the hard luck story of the race, finished best of all in third. Stumbling at the start, Harmonize raced far back as last of 12 for much of the way. She improved her position while sticking to the inside down the lane and was beaten all of 1 1/2 lengths. The Bill Mott trainee could have made things interesting with a decent break.
Jeremy’s Legacy also did her best work late for fourth, missing third by a head. Ava’s Kitten took up a good stalking position, but couldn’t maintain her spot and checked in fifth.
Catch a Glimpse, who negotiated 1 1/16 miles on a firm course in 1:42.92, paid $5 to win. She’s approaching millionaire status with $929,052 in earnings from her 7-6-0-0 line. Since her fifth in an off-the-turf debut in the Saratoga slop, Catch a Glimpse has been uncatchable. Her skein includes last fall’s Natalma (G2) and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1), propelling her to Sovereign Awards, and this season’s Herecomesthebride (G3) and Appalachian (G3).
Chatter is already building about whether Catch a Glimpse will be the heir apparent to her Eclipse Award-winning stablemate Tepin, who defends her title in Saturday’s Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (G2).
