Class Prevails on Saturday Night Card at Yonkers

December 18th, 2016

Conditions were hardly ideal for horses and drivers on the final Saturday night card of the year at Yonkers Raceway, but class prevailed among both over a track was gradually upgraded from good to fast.

Catch driver Jason Bartlett has been a dominant force in the colony all season and Saturday night he capped the season by winning the two features and later in the finale. Fittingly enough his three primary scores occurred with class horses.

Right at the midway point of the card, PH Supercam ended his  campaign by notching his second straight tally when he led throughout to capture the "Winners Over" class for older pacers. A nine-year-old Million Dollar Cam gelding trained by Jeff Bamond, Jr., PH Supercam finished a solid season with a 6-6-5 slate and $267,500 bankroll from 32 starts after shaking loose from a gritty, first over Roland N Rock and the pocket-sitting Foiled Again to score in 1:52.3.

One race later on the card, Bartlett and Bamond were back in the winner's circle after the track's leading driver steered Mach It So to a pocket-trip score in the $45,000 Open Handicap in 1:52.3. A six-year-old Mach Three gelding trained by Bamond, Mach It So concluded another solid campaign with a 9-5-1 slate and $416,500 bankroll from 29 starts. He now sports 34 wins and nearly $1.7 million banked from 94 career outings.

Then several races later in the finale, Bartlett guided favored Somewhere In L A to a narrow, wire-to-wire score in a non-winners of $25,000 last five starts for pacers in 1:53. A five-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding trained by Richard Banca, Somewhere In L A ended his campaign with a 6-3-2 slate and $110,000 bankroll from 23 starts and he now owns 20 wins and $840,000 earned in 80 career outings.

It was also a good night for driver George Brennan and trainer Ron Burke. Brennan won four races on the card, including narrow victories with Real Flight, UF Larryalltheway, Guantanamo Bay and Class Six
