Dover Downs Offers Solid Thursday Card

January 12th, 2017

Throughout the winter and into the spring, Dover Downs offers its best cards on Thursday and tomorrow evening the Delaware five-eighths mile oval will again highlight the top aged pacers on the circuit in a bevy of competitive events.

Just before the midway point of the card, Fancy Colt (Anthony Morgan) will seek his second straight score while competing in a non-winners of $12,001 last six starts class for pacers. Fancy Colt has always performed well over the oval and will look to continue his climb back into the Open ranks after winning his most recent outing against slightly lesser in 1:52 last Thursday for trainer Tim Crissman.

One race later in a non-winners of $100,001 lifetime class for youthful pacers looking to someday make the climb into the Open ranks here, both Poisonous (Corey Callahan) and Moonlight Montoya (Victor Kirby) will also seek their second straight scores. Poisonous won last week's split in 1:51.1 for trainer Josh Green, while Moonlight Montoya prevailed in a modest 1:52.4. Caviart Skyler (Ross Wolfenden) finished second in a similar class for trainer Ron Burke and looms a threat in this spot.

Then one race later in the $20,000 Open, famed aged pacer Foiled Again (Yannick Gingras) will look to regain his winning ways despite starting from post eight for Burke. Foiled Again has grown accustomed to winning over the years, having posted 91 wins and banked over $7.4 million during a Hall of Fame career that is rapidly approaching 300 lifetime starts. Rockinonby (Morgan) steps up off a conditioned victory for trainer Willard Reynolds and looms a serious contender.
Then two races later in the $30,000 Preferred, railbound Dancin Yankee (Morgan) double jumps off a sharp 1:50.3 score in a conditioned event, while Little Ben (Kirby) seeks a second straight tally after defeating Delaware Special foes in 1:50 last week for trainer Jim King, Jr. Soto (Art Stafford, Jr.) defeated Open rivals in 1:51.2 last week for trainer Eric Ell of J L Cruze fame, while Seventh Secret (George Dennis) will seek to regain his winning ways after a second-place effort last week.

Then several races later in the finale, a non-winners of $60,001 lifetime class for younger pacers, both railbound Sonny At The Beach (Kirby) and See You Tuesday (Wolfenden) will seek their second straight tallies and perhaps launch into the tougher non-winners of $100,001 lifetime class. See You Tuesday won his split last week in 1:52.3, while Sonny At The Beach prevailed in 1:53.4. But the shift in post positions could have an impact on the result Thursday evening.
