DQ's All-American Double Dip
In January of 2016 the DQ Williams Kennel made their glorious return to bestbet Jacksonville and brought along with them a pair of All-American Greyhounds. Seldom Told and Need My Moneynow were already household names, but during their 2016 campaign, they proved that nothing was going to hinder their performance, not even moving racetracks.
Need My Moneynow is a strong breaking, all out determined runner that dominated fields and flirted with the track record on multiple occasions at Jacksonville. Starting off the year in fine fashion, he jumped right into the fray as his first start representing Jacksonville was in the finals of the 2016 edition of the Daytona 550 race. Breaking close, he stalked the leader to the far turn, shifted gears, and ran down fellow All-American Husker Magic in the stretch to claim the title. Finding his groove at Jacksonville, he put together a 4-race win streak through the first two rounds of the Patton Silver Cup, before missing his break in the finals and finishing 4th. The March Mayhem stakes was next and with back to back winning trips he took home the championship for the DQ Williams Kennel and a shiny new blanket for himself. These wins started an unprecedented run that we have not seen in a very long time at Jacksonville. Need My Moneynow won 18 times in 23 starts where he never finished out of the quiniela. When he did lose, it was by a couple of lengths or less, and that run included a streak of 9 victories in a row. This impressive streak ended in the 2016 bestbet Sprint Classic, where he competed in just 2 rounds before being retired. For the second straight year, his impressive numbers, and stakes victories, were enough for him to be voted on and awarded a spot on the 2016 All-American Team. For his career, he finished with 119 starts – 81 wins, 16 places, 10 thirds, and 7 fourths.
Seldom Told was not far behind and surpassed his half-brother in accomplishments even though he was sidelined from March through July. Seldom Told also started out the year in the finals of the Daytona 550, but was a late entry, didn’t get to official school on the racetrack and finished out of the money in that effort. He didn’t miss a beat though at Jacksonville as he started out his racing career at the new track with wins in his first 9 races in a row. From the lead or from behind, Seldom Told can win races from anywhere on the racetrack and is as fast as he wants to be. He was just a tick or two off the track record on several occasions and cannot be denied when he wants to win, no matter who is in front of him. This special greyhound was a dominate force over both 550 and 660 yards on the year where he put up win after win after win. His first stakes try came in the 2016 edition of the Patton Silver Cup and he finished in the quiniela in both qualifying rounds before being withdrawn. After his break, he returned hit the ground running with 3 wins in a row and 5 straight quinielas. After that is where it got interesting as he won 7 straight before finished 4th in the finals of the redemption stakes. Then he was moved to 660 yards to warm up for the $50,000 Orange Park Derby, and to say to he took to the route would be an understatement. Winning 5 in a row, including the first two rounds of the stakes, he faulted into the next two, but came back with a tremendous run in the finals to take home the title. Back to 550 after that and the streak continued. Seldom Told ripped off 7 more victories in a row, including the semis and the finals of the Holiday Sprint Stakes. Finished off the year in fine fashion, Seldom Told put together 3 more wins in a row to cap off the year. No greyhound in the fall was more impressive as he won 21 of 23 starts, including streaks of 6, 7, and 8 in a row, over two distances, and winning stakes races over 550 and 660 yards. For his efforts Seldom Told was voted as Captain of the 2016 All-American Team. He too is flirting with history as he has career starts of 109 with 78 wins, 11 places, 8 shows, and 5 fourths.
From everyone here at bestbet Jacksonville, we want to send out a big CONGRATULATION to the DQ Williams Kennel, Owner Sharon L Williams, Trainer Craig Edwards, and everyone else connected with this stupendous greyhounds. Adding names to their already impressive list of former All-Americans, the DQ Williams Kennel, and Sharon, should go down in the record books as one of the best breeders of all time in greyhound racing. This duo of Seldom Told and Need My Moneynow join Penny Candy as two time winner of the award. Their names along with J’s Robin, Dustin The Way, Redmoon Clyde, Ski’s Gallo, Sonic Mist, Hang On To Win, Ijusplainowinner, Summer Sound, and Granny’s Pick complete the flag waving ranks for the DQ Williams Kennel. Twelve in all, five of which have come from running on the Jacksonville Circuit, DQ is making history once again.
