Freehold’s late Pick 4 was a Power Plays focus.
In leg one we started off winning with I Get That ($5.00, $3.00, $2.40), while Galante A ($7.80) was third and Ozone Blue Chip (6-1), was fourth.
In leg two we remained alive with Royal Courtier ($9.20, $3.60, $3.20). Somesurfsomewhere (29-1) took fourth and Brightside Kevin (2-1) finished seventh.
Leg three saw the end of our Pick-4 chances, as Runaround Sue ($8.20) finished third, Julios Girl (4-5) was fifth and Foolish Virgin (30-1) was sixth.
The Pick 4 ended for us with Ok Galahad ($4.20, $2.20) second to the favorite in a $8.60 exacta. Midnite Pass (8-1) finished fifth; American Venture (22-1) ended up seventh.
Friday, Jan. 22
Another Freehold Power Plays chased single-race exotics. Two of our four finished in the exacta and trifecta combos. Whoucalncrazy ($6.40, $3.20) was second and race-favorite Caviar Star ($2.20) finished third. Rossini (12-1) and R Sam (27-1) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Yonkers 10th race was a selected feature. Sugar Factory scratched. We won the race with the public choice, Heavens Gait ($4.40, $3.10, $2.20).
Saturday, Jan. 23
Our selected feature opened the Meadowlands program, where a 9-1 defeated our 6-1 Seeuinnashville A ($5.20).
A Power Plays on single-race exotics at Northfield presented three contenders, two which created the $21.00 exacta—Desolation Row ($15.20, $3.40, $2.60) and Spoxys Girl ($2.10, $2.10 ok). Fox Valley Sierra (5-1), finishing fourth, contributed the superfecta.
H2W LIST RESULTS
The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Exactas listed include a H2W horse finishing second to a race-favorite or if the first two finishers are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses are listed—a cold exacta). The note “ok” determines that prices are correct (even when a show price exceeds a place price or all prices are the same).
Please note that some results reflect horses racing after the blog posts (they appear the following week).
This week, there were 45 active horses (a 16-percent win hit rate and a 44-percent ATB [across-the-board] hit rate). Horses with asterisks before their names were tweets @FrankCotolo. Follow for all late choices.

NEWS & NOTES
Hans Enggren, a professional friend, is dead at 91. Hans, a native of Sweden, co-owned International Trot star Resolve and Hambletonian-champ Prakas, as well as other trotters part-named Meadowbranch. He bought the retired Peace Corps, arguably the greatest mare trotter of modern harness racing, just to take care of her in the late days of her life.
After arriving in the U.S. in 1952, Hans settled in Pennsylvania. He became a hotel-and-motel entrepreneur and then began a career in trotting, starting Meadowbranch Farm. I met Hans when he became a shareholder of TIMES: in harness, where I was an editor. He introduced me to Peace Corps when I visited Ugo Chiola’s Kosmos farm. A wife, his children, grandchildren and friends survive Hans, whose contributions enriched our sport.
Woodbine Entertainment unveiled a tentative schedule for the 2021 stakes season at Woodbine Mohawk Park (WoMo). More than $20 million in stakes races, including over $12 million in Woodbine-administrated events, are included. Horse racing in Ontario is on hiatus until at least Feb. 10 due to COVID-19 restrictions. The cash-filled schedule launches in May with the million-dollar North America Cup and Mohawk Million races. Watch TwinSpires’ harness blog for info betting all major events.
Capt Midnight has been retired and will stand stud for the 2021 breeding season. A $350,000 yearling, the Captaintreacherous colt rolled to six victories in 10 freshman races, including the Nassagaweya, Champlain and International Stallion stakes. He won twice in sub-1:50 miles at two, capturing the Dream Maker Final at WoMo in 1:49.4 and then again to that mark at The Red Mile in an International Stallion Stake.
Yonkers Raceway hosts a new slot for major stakes on its calendar. The Yonkers Trot and Messenger Pace Stakes finals for sophs shift to July 2 in 2021. Eliminations for both events go on June 25 along with fillies’ Park MGM Pace and New York—New York Mile, with $125,000 (est.) finals on the first Friday in July. The MGM Borgata and Blue Chip Matchmaker series are in their usual dates (though Monday is the new Saturday at Yonkers). The Borgata, for older male pacers, presents the first of five $40,000 legs on Monday, March 15. The Blue Chip Matchmaker offers a handful of preliminary legs. Worth $35,000 each, the series launches on Friday, March 12.
